Lol, i never took offense to yours. I knew what you were referring to. My wife would agree with you. Look at the management for Walmart and you will see where the employees get their training from :).

Kevin

Hey Kev.

I didn't realize your wife works at Wal-Mart, so I apologize for the reference, it certainly wasn't intended with your wife in mind. The Wal-Mart workers out here in California are typically lazy teenagers who hide from customers and are very rude and generally worthless from a customer service stand point. They actually tell you "I dunno." and continue walking when you ask them something.

So it has become my frame of reference for poor customer service and that is the context that I used it for my post.

Getting back to my point, you will pay the extra money in any event, if you were to eliminate tips, the prices on the menu go way up. And unlike a tip, the menu prices aren't up to your discretion.

By the way as far as wasting my life on here, I make a pretty decent living. I am on here as a luxury of my job.

You should tip if they are courteous and careful when unloading your machine. If you treat them well, they'll pay it forward.

When we moved into this home, our movers were working very fast and hard, and the moving company charged in half hour intervals. To see them busting it made me grateful, because they were effectively saving me money, so I gave each mover a $50 tip and just before they finished up bought them a few drinks from the gas station. When it came time to fill out the paperwork, the truck driver marked that they were finished an hour earlier and turned to his crew and said, "Hope you guys don't mind, but we're not stopping for a drink, we need to hustle back."

In the end I paid out more in tips than they saved me by knocking off an hour, but I was happy that they managed to save me additional time by working fast and they moved all my games downstairs without a single mark on the walls.

By me paying them a high tip, I'm willing to bet that they'll treat the next game owner right, because they could see that I really appreciated the way they handled my machines.

Same concept applies to food service.

That is a dispository, bend over for your meds :) Need to give the pill to the ones starting the flames. That is the problem with everyone knowing mods are MIA. People look for oppertunity to start flame wars. You want to offer a chill pill to the one who did not start it. Look at the help section. It seems the flamer s have none or little contribution there. They have much activity in the BS threads.. need to say more?

Kevin

Thanks for the great B-Day gift!

Here's my tip for someone:rolleyes:

Tip?!?!?! If I gave a tip, it would be "Grass is always greener on the other side of the septic tank'. Sorry, but I don't think consumers should have to pay someone who is already being paid to do their job. Like waitress/waiters, Why is it we pay the business for service and yet be responsable for paying most of the servers wage? That is why I get my food to go, I am not going to encourage that type of business practice. You are paying for that game to be delivered. WTF would you give them extra money? Would they do extra like hauling it to your basement when they just drop it off in your driveway? Hell no they wouldn't!

Kevin

Hey, who invited Mr. Pink to dinner?

nothin wrong with tippin the driver. $20 would be ok for a heavier game for sure, but i'd say more in the $10 to $15 for the lighter 1's unless stairs is involved.

In this case I think it's totally up to you weather to tip or not. Know that the driver is likely paid well to deliver the item so it is a bit different than tipping for food service IMO. I don't think that giving a tip should be a foregone conclusion. I would wait and see if the guy does a good job handling the game and has a courteous and positive attitude. Doing his/her job does not merit a tip in my opinion. But doing his job well or going above and beyond what he's required to do may very well merit a tip. Take every thing in perspective. I believe the original idea behind a tip was to show a bit of gratitude for a job well done. Now I know with food service and the laws that govern their pay situation there is a bit of a feeling that you are obligated to tip and I guess I'm ok with that. But in a job where you can be pretty sure the worker is compensated well for their work, you don't necessarily need to show your gratitude in a monetary tip. Not that the driver would't prefer that. You may simply offer them a soda or cold water if it's a hot day or something along those lines. I think the true bottom line is that if you feel that you were provided good service then feel free to tip if you like. Although you are not obligated to do so. Truthfully if the service is not quality I would not tip.

(applauds) Well stated!

Wow, you guys are some cheap!!

I tip every delivery driver that comes... they usually are courteous, bring the delivery to where I ask, set it up, check for damage... if it is one guy he gets $20, if there are two guys they each get $10. I figure it's enough for lunch somewhere :D

Do you tip the mailman daily also?

If someone brings a pizza to your house you toss the guy a few bucks, but you won't do the same for a guy moving a game??? Seriously? We know how heavy and awkward these things are. You happen to know the ins and outs of your house. If someone delivers a game, fridge, washer, dryer, etc for you toss him a bone, that's just common decency. The same guys who would line up to pay through the nose if someone made a decent Ms P stencil wouldn't break a delivery guy off something. Jeebus.

Agreed.

Also, with food service, the 15% tip should be your base tip. Just plan on paying that unless they basically go out of their way to antagonize you. Great service just raises the bar.
