Should I sell it? Brand new 19" wells 7203 monitor...

Bought the last (2) 19" new 7203 monitors from wells last year. Buddy of mine got one of them, I kept the other.. I've been waiting for the right game to install it into, but I just can't do it.. As its so damn nice :)

Money is tight right now, and it's just sitting in its box.. I paid quite a bit for this, with shipping (expensive for me at least).. Is it worth selling, should I hang onto it for the right game, am I just going to be annoyed that I sold it??

Not like these are easy to find anymore.. It's just sitting here..

I Need a kick in the ass.. Heh, whatcha think?

I like the old monitors better personally. I'd sell it but I think if I wanted another new one I could find it. Possibly even for a reasonable price so I guess it would be less of a concern to me. For what it's worth I sold a game with a pretty much new monitor for less than the value of the monitor. These newer ones are bright, clean but not as well made and more of a pain to repair than the old ones.

A new monitor just sold on eBay a few days ago and it didn't get that much coin. I think < $300. Money comes and goes, if you are really in need of cash sell a pin, save that monitor for a worthy game.

man i guess im greedy. If i had a brand new monitor i would hoarde that thing forever, waiting for a rainy day when i have a super clena game with a krappy burnt monitor.

On the other hand if you can sell it for some cash to get you through some rough times, hey, its only glass steel and lead man.

life, family should always be more important than these wood boxes man. Im a collector for life but man when it comes dowen to it family should win every time.

I say don't sell it. Give it to me so I'll be your friend. ;)
But if you don't use it soon, you might as well sell it. With modern caps being what they are, its likely that it will need a cap kit as soon as anyone uses it. Just a thought.

If it's VGA compatible then shoot it my way. I'll buy it off ya for a fair price.

If you can keep them, But don't let your family suffer if you do. You on the other hand can eat oatmeal and apple sauce for a few months (Just Kidding). Personally I would sell a common game before selling a mint CRT..

Umm...whatcha looking to get for it? The screen burn in my restored Tron has always pissed me off. It would go to a good home and in a good game. I can definitely give you fair money for it.

Sadly, you may not get your initial investment back out of it.

NIB monitors can still be found. So in the future if you need to get one again, you can still get one....

I can understand that, but:

WG 4600 on the left and HAPP Vision Pro on the right. The black is SO much blacker on the newer Vision Pro monitor. And the photo doesn't even do it justice.

A nice phosphor mask doesn't mean a whole helluva lot to me. I don't want to have to lay my hands on a monitor once I've installed it, THAT'S what's important to me. After playing with dozens of monitors in the past 12 months, I can tell you that anything made before 1990 has been easier to rebuild, and has not given any issues since rebuilding. The newer stuff, while it has more features (remote boards, newer tubes, etc) has given me no end of problems.

If you're not happy with the tube in your 4600, just swap it. It's not that hard. Besides, based on the above pic, it appears that the 4600 belongs in a Pac cab, which means the monitor will be behind smoked plexi anyway. I'd have a real hard time telling the difference between the two monitors running behind that glass.

Monitor

I'm still on the fence.. I don't need to sell the monitor to pay my bills or feed my family, money is tight when it comes to the hobby or any extra stuff.. Should have mentioned that :) If it came to my family or the hobby, I'd sell everything I own in a hot second.. Life is waaaay more important.

As for getting back my investment, I'm not terribly worried about that now.. Since this post, I've had plenty of offers locally to buy it for what I paid.. I'm not looking to make a quick buck.. Really just wanted to see what other collectors thought about new monitors. I'm a huge fan of GO7s and older wells too, but once you see a new monitor in the right game, man... It's a beautiful thing :)

I've been lucky over the years to score newer (used) displays from a local op. so most of my keepers have almost burn free tubes.. So I'm a bit spoiled.. Just never ordered a brand new one from wells..it's like having that awesome toy you don't want to take out of the package :)

Thanks for the input!

I've also got a new monitor that I bought from Wells last fall. They found it in the back of their IL warehouse last fall, and I snatched it up.

I'm saving it for my Ms Pac restoration.

I didn't replace the 4600 with the vision pro because I wanted a better picture. The XY board on it burned up, and a replacement at the time was not to be found. I still have it and another good 4600 and I plan on fixing it, but I wanted to play some Galaga. The 4600 I had was really nice before it went bad, but the Vision Pro is even nicer, and yes it is behind tinted plexi. :D

This is what the 4600 looked like just before it went bad:

Here is the Vision Pro installed. I don't have a good close up shot:
