i was lucky to score the same jr pac man that was in my local burger joint a couple of months ago.
im kicking myself for missing out on sideart that sold on ebay last night. the side art thats on it now is good but not perfect. i need to put my mind at ease and was wondering if you scored a childhood memory, would you leave it since it IS as it was or would you restore it?

i have no prob swapping out a coin door or bezel since those are easy enough to come by...
but im so bummed about the art...

short of graffiti or major damage I would leave the game as I remember it from my childhood. If you're gonna restore it it might as well just be any game from any place IMO.

I restore EVERYTHING. If it's worn or used because of something you did...that's nostalgic. If it's gross because of 1000's of other people beating on it, that's just yuck to me.

Leave it.... patina is a good thing.
I restore EVERYTHING.

Very interesting divide in this hobby. (And some others.)

My personal taste: restoring the cosmetics on a machine before I buy it is like cleaning a coin, which is a no-no. Let me decide if I want it restored; otherwise, I'm paying the seller less. I like original, and I like patina.

Electronics, controls, etc. = a whole other discussion.

Yeah, I like how everyone has differing opinions...it would be boring if everyone thought the same. I just don't like old, mildly beat up things in my house.

I figured I would restore everything I bought, but that changed when I got Joust. Not that it hardly needs a restore really, but I like the idea of my #1 favorite game looking aged and all original. Like a well used "relic" guitar...

I'm one of the weirdos who likes to leave games as is. They don't look pristine on location, I like the atmospheric effect of the slight wear and tear from being loved and played for so long, each cab has so much history with it. Unless something is just completely missing from a cab I try to keep it all original. Not restoring the outside gives me so much more money to buy more games and so much more time to play with them too ;)

I hate cosmetic restoration but if it has to be done because of rot or chunk missing or really bad art then so be it. It just depends on the game I suppose. In general though I try to find the nicest original examples.
