I got this non-working back in January of last year. After a week of troubleshooting I finally got it working. The cabinet has pretty bad water damage on all four sides of the bottom, but oddly the very bottom is good. I started ripping off the bad layers and decided that I would build them back up with bondo. In the photo's you can see just how far up the water wicked into the particle.Fast forward to today 2/9/10 and the cab is still not finished. After staring at the game for about 20 minutes tonight I think I'm ready to do something with it. I see myself having three options, sell it as is,part it out and destroy the cabinet,or destroy the cabinet and keep the rest until I find an empty cabinet. The cabinet is just too far damaged for me to even want to finish it,and it's too ugly to be shown but looks fine in the dark since no one knows what it truly looks like but me. I would love to keep it as I always wanted one since 1987 but at the same time I found some pins that I want and need room for them. What do you guys think?I'd have some more motivation if it were'nt so hard to find another dedicated cabinet. Whats a full Contra kit go for these days anyway? Never seen one for sale here.

Hmm, looks like the monitor is set up for Vertical play. Wasn't Contra a side scrolling game?
You put a lot of work into it. Do you think you can make your money back?
If not, you may want to ride this out and go all the way.
Otherwise people would easily buy the CP, Marquee and PCB.
You could also sell the rest of the game off and then just junk the cab. I would love to take it from you, but MD is a bit far from MN.

Correct,it is a side scroller and the monitor is vertical in all of the dedicated cabs.I could definately make my money back no issue.

I know all the parts, art are available on ebay fairly inexpensive if you did a rebuild. I also yet to see someone with even a Super C in their arcade.

I have a Super C board. I just don't have anything to put it into. It would be cool to have 1 machine with both Super C and Contra in it to play.

I had the same problem with the cabinet and finished restoring it much worse than that is now. I have to say I don't see them come up for sale very often and even then most cabinets have issues. It looks like you basically done why not buy a gallon of rustolem oil base High gloss white and roll the sides and call it a day? Its the Damned side art that keeps jumping up in price every time I look to buy a set.

If you have a router and a slot cutting bit could just saw off the bad stuff slap on a new piece of wood and just bondo the seam could get it done in an afternoon if you had all the stuff on hand. Or bring it to crab town in another month maybe someone will want it. (hell I might want it LOL)

So wait... the monitor on Contra IS supposed to be a vertical set up?? For some reason I thought it was a Horizontal set up since it was a side scroller.

And it's some of the worst looking side art ever. LOL!

Oh hell yeah it is, I always thought this game would have been a great movie. Back in the day have Stallone and Schwarzenegger as the 2 main guys. Like a Predator type movie.

oh it's far from almost done. The T molding channels on the bottom are swollen to 2 inches think as apposed to being 1/2 inch. Molding would never hold. The cabinet is made of a cardboard type material so it wont match up right if I use natural wood as a patch. It still needs close to another can of bondo,It already has a full can on it as you see it lol I have all the stuff on hand that you speak of,just don't feel like doing it.I've done 4 resto's this month and am just worn out.

Well they sell that type of wood at home depot or Lowes its called MDF instead of using bondo you could just take a circular saw and cut off the bad parts. Trace the side onto the new MDF cut it out and attach it to the cabinet. Only bondo you would need is to patch the joint line between the old and new stuff.
