Should I go LED for my Judge Dredd?

Ahh, good point. I guess I just assumed what ever fixes the ghosting would also fix the flicker. The ghosting doesn't bother me all that much.

Welcome to the forums, BTW. :)

Well, you could very well be correct in your assumption that what fixes the ghosting may also fix the flicker, I just don't know...which is why I was asking.

I just want to be sure that I do my LED upgrade "right" when I'm ready to do it to my AFM (which I should have by next weekend).

And thanks for the welcome. I'm in the I.E. too!

A little RGP research seems to indicate the ghost busters will help, but NOT eliminate flicker. To what degree is still up in the air. I'll keep reading....

And, yeah, I know you are in IE. You also just got a W?D to add to your WH2O (I'm the same "gibbous" on the bash).

Congrats on the AFM! You are on a BINGE! When's the party? ;)

Yes, I know we have spoke at the other forum, I just couldn't remember if I told you I was specifically in the I.E. Guess I did!

Yeah, somewhat of a binge, but not as much as you think. The WH20 is being traded in on the AFM. :(

The energy savings is overstated. I mean it's a nice side effect but it's not going to drop the power usage of the machine by enough to matter. We're talking about a few cents over the course of a few hours. Punching the throttle on your car for 5 seconds will burn a lot more energy and money...

I like the LED look in limited amounts (occasional games on other people's machines). I like the startling effect and the strobe effect has a neat shock value, especially at first. Long term though, I don't want it on my machines except maybe a couple of choice inserts. For example, a color changing LED could be a neat enhancement on some games/inserts. The lack of fade, the flicker, the unnatural color in GI, all of these things bother me if I'm really trying to play pinball.

Most of the pictures I see on the net promoting LED's are horrible. Seriously bright, over colored, ridiculous "bling" lighting. And in the pics you can't see all the playability problems or the flicker or strobe effect. This is probably why so many people go for LED's, the pictures on the net look "cool" but it really has little to do with what's good for playing and what's easiest on the eyes when seeing the game in person.

I bet most of the people who rav e about LEDs in their pins also have the contrast/picture setting in their tv's cranked all the way up! :D
