should i find a Galaga for my Uncle? Addiction question

I love this hobby, it's the most addicting thing i've ever done. I have cabs everywhere thanks to a huge shop at my Dad's property, my question is, my uncle wants a Galaga. He's 44 and him and his wife played this all the time when they were dating. I know what this hobby can do. Constant craigslist searching, constant buying, no room at the house, hiding games from the wife. Should i let him catch the fever? He has a nice shop and i'm thinking how it's gonna change in 2 years if i get him started. Thoughts?

Yes. Encouraging addiction in others around you will make you feel more normal. :)

Actually, I think there is a very small percentage of people who get addicted to this stuff. If he does get addicted to it, it will be because he is as crazy as we are, and he will truly enjoy it. Otherwise, you will probably have a Galaga soon. Win win!

Tell your uncle that if he finds one, that you will help him fix it up. I have had way too many people tell me that they will buy XXX from me if I find one. I find one, usually needs some work, they get all excited and then wimp out at the end and I am stuck with it. I am never going to buy something with the idea of buying it for somebody else, unless I want it too.

If you don't mind working on it for him then hook him up with one. I don't mind helping people get them going. I do mind doing all the work for them though....which is a situation I find myself in every time I offer to help.

This ^

It's happened to me too except not for full size cabs but PCB's. Nowadays it's "You want it? I'll need the cash first.".

There was a Galaga at the Des Moines area auction about a month ago. I think it went for 350 or so at auction, but I wouldn't swear to that as I was interested up to about 250 and then walked away. It was a bit rough and had a memory error earlier in the day but they had it working when it sold. Its been posted on CL a couple times, I think this is the last ad so it might have sold:

I gave my father a lethal enforcers cab awhile back, and he loves it (he's all into the cowboy stuff). It's always a hit at parties, but he hasn't asked me to find him anything since then, and it's been about 3 years. I guess it depends on the person.

Yep. My brother in law bought a Ms. Pac Man about 4 years ago and it has been his only game. When he had a board problem with it I mentioned getting a JAMMA adapter and a xxx-in-1, but he just paid to have the Ms. Pac board fixed.

I'd get totally sick of playing the same game all the time, especially Pac Man, but I think it just gets very occasional use and he's totally happy with it.

Yeah, there are a lot of people just happy with one or two games. Just look at CL ads, with people getting rid of their "one" game that no longer works, are bored of, or no longer have room for. I wouldn't worry about your Uncle.
