I was trying to troubleshoot my Atari 720 joystick controller and accidentally shorted the +5V supply at the joystick controller PCB... my hands were not as steady as I thought they were when I was probing for voltages... The +5 supply still comes up fine, but the game no longer boots and I no longer even get a video signal :-(... Any quick things to check before ripping out the main PCB from the cabinet for some detailed inspection work?

what did you do to short the controller board?
can you explained what happened?

my 720 has not been working at all and i have gone over everything from different cpu and video and audio II boards, to tripple checking every connection in the harness to the transformer, to grounds...

can someone in the know let us know if this game would not boot at all due to a bad control panel or coin door (these are the only 2 things i havent trouble shot yet)

I was checking for +5 at the controller PCB with the game up and running (right where the splits and goes to both sides of the PCB (the 2 pins in the middle of these 4 wire connectors are +5)... I heard the spark when my hand slipped and cause a momentary short... The game remained up (but some of the graphics were messed up and it later froze)... Now it does not come up at all :-( it is interesting that the short didn't just Immediately kill the whole game rather than causing a "glitch" condition first... I will eventually get back into the garage to work on it, its just really hot right now to be working in there...
