So I had a friend call me a couple of weeks ago and was needing some money and i knew he had an NBA Jam but had never seen it. I told him I'd give him $200 for it if he delivered it to my house which seemed fine to me considering its a game I really like. I hadn't played it in forever but I did like it. I was more concerned about helping a friend then anything else.

Well got it to my house... and its a really shitty conversion. All the wiring is pretty hacked, it has really shitty reprod side art that is scuffed and peeling on all the corners with some pretty deep gashes into the cab. The bottom of the cab is pretty rough too. I mean its pretty damn bad. It has a computer print out marquee that is scotch taped together. It looks like the whole control panel was hand built by someone who didnt care. The plexi on the top of it is actually rough around the edges. This was actually on route at one point like this too.

It does have a really nice wells monitor though...

Heres some pictures of it. You can't really tell the condition of it. My camera makes everything look too nice. The cabinet was a Konami Crime Fighters at one point.

What would you guys do with this? I don't even know.

Like you said you were helping a friend. At least you know that the money is going somewhere good. As for the game it can be fixed up and made to look pretty if you want to.

after reading your text and then seeing the pics, it looks better than I expected.

Well, you got a working 25" for $200. Sell off the NBA JAM pcb and joystick parts. You might even be able to sell off the cab or just give it away. In a ways, you'll probably end up ahead after selling the pcb.

I agree with the first two replies. It has its issues but it's not horrible. If you really want to fix it up I say go for it. But honestly I would just throw a "real" marquee in there and have a new, although not overly pretty, game in my gameroom that you got while helping out a friend.

Dont take this the wrong way, but for $200, what do you expect? That dosent look bad at all. A couple scratches and a wrinkled marquee are all I see. If its a working game, you got a good deal IMO.

Part it out. :D

There are millions (well, LOTS) of Konami 4 player cabs out there. Don't waste your time with this, trust me. Get yourself a dedicated NBA and be done with it. You can find a dedicated for the same price I'm sure of it.

Steal the monitor and pcb....donate the rest to some mame freak on CL, they love cabinet fodder.

I don't know what's wrong with you, like you said it was mainly to help a friend. As for the cabinet it looks pretty good to me, and you said it has a really nice monitor. I'd get a new marquee sometime though. It seems pretty selfish to bitch and complain about getting the short end of the deal, I mean it's not like you were haggling with some stranger. I'd be happy to get a NBA Jam for $200.00 and help someone out.

FYI, that ratsnest of a wiring job is factory standard for Konami back then. You sure the marquee isnt a translight? I know you said that your camera makes things look better then they are but it looks fine in the pics.

Looks like a good deal for $200 bucks to me. I've come across several NBA Jam Conversions that look much worse. Like several members have already pointed out, you could part the cab out and likely come out ahead. The cab doesn't look bad IMO.

if worst comes to worst and you don't want it, sell it. i'm sure even in that shape you could probably get a little more. list it for $350 and see if someone bites.
