So I find a collector who has 2 games in great condition at the TOP of my wish list. The collector gives me a good deal because I am having to have them shipped from Georgia to California. NAVL quotes me $530 shipping total for both games, which puts the total price at the absolute top of what I can afford right now.

So these are awesome games... Starwars upright and Tron, both in awesome condition. Also, Starwars has the Cowgill Empire Strikes Back Multigame. Well... NAVL calls me and says they picked up the games but there was stairs and they needed a 3rd person so there is going to be an extra $165 charge. They tell me this AFTER they pickup the games. Like what am I supposed to do now? I wouldn't have done the deal for an extra $165. And then NAVL has the gall to say maybe you can collect it from the seller. The seller already has given me a good deal and I am literally overspent already and then I am supposed to pay another $165.

And this happens Friday right before the end of business day. So now I have to wait till Monday to talk to them. Way to ruin the weekend also.

Any suggestions? I feel as though I am getting screwed and there is nothing I can do about it.

My suggestion - Pay with a credit card... do not sign jack shit... then dispute the charge. When they attempt dispute your dispute, kindly request a signed slip giving them permission to charge you the extra $165.

PS: You got JACKED... I know a member here shipped a Star Wars and Asteroids Deluxe from Nampa Idaho to NEW YORK (or was it Jersey) and I think he paid $385 for both via NAVL about 8 months back or so...

NAVL sucks. That's why I wait for something local even though it can take years. All I can say is be patient.

Yeah, I'm learning that patience is key. "Don't search for arcades, let the arcades come to you" or something of that nature.

Still VERY iffy on shipping games after seeing all the troubles that you guys experience with NAVL, UPS, and the like.

I have had some very good luck with uship lately, but you have to be picky (don't take the first bid) and check the references

I have had nothing but good experiences with NAVL. Sorry about your luck. I'd rather get something I've always wanted and risk a bad experience than to wait years for it to come up locally, and then fail at acquiring it. Seriously.

I agree with FF here. You didn't approve the extra money. If you have to sign for the game, I would just cross out any reference to said $165 charge or an incorrect total charge and dispute the additional amount. Unless you told them to get the games at any cost, then they cannot be jacking up the price without your consent. Just don't fight it until they set the game down on your property and preferably in your house so you can close the door. They shouldn't make you sign before looking it over for damage anyway. So plug it in inside the house.

Yeah... I'm not liking NAVL either right now. I've never used them before but I need something shipped from AZ to NJ. Its small. 22" x 22" x 45" and weighs about 100 pounds. She gave me a quote for $420!!!!! Thats just crazy.

What is it with these assholes? These people that run these businesses suck. Their shipping quotes should be based on worst case scenario hauls; that way when there is extra stairs and things like that, its already included in the price. OR...they should be smart enough to contact the seller and ASK how many stairs or obstacles there is in the way and THEN give the buyer the fucking quote. Stupid assholes. I would go on a quest to tell everyone I know that Navl sucks shit and never to use them to ship something. Word spreads fast and soon they will lose business, and then maybe the managers will have to go back to managing McDonald's again where they belong.

This will be my 8th time using NAVL and I havent had any issues so far. Prices have fluctuated between $320-380 per game. So far the games have arrived in perfect condition with no hassles. The one time I had a slight issue was with my afterburner2 cockpit which they initially told me would cost $600 increased to $1000. I ended up using another shipping company for $800.

The extra $165 sucks, sorry to hear that. Even with that the shipping per game comes out to $350 which is on par. They do normally ask up front whether there are stairs involved, If they never asked, then $80-90? the seller also should have mentioned there were stairs. I'd advise against not paying or disputing charges because its not worth the headache to me. I'm with M1A, I'd rather have the games in the condition I want, arrive safely and be done with it. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

On several occasions I have arranged for games to be picked up by NAVL when the seller won't arrange for shipping. Every time, they have asked me a series of questions including:
1. Is it a business or residential pickup.
2. Are there stairs at the pick up site.
3. Are there any special hours they cannot pick up.
4. Do I have a loading dock or do they need a lift gate to deliver to me.

Sometimes they ask more questions but the 4 listed above have always been asked.

After reading this post i have to side with NAVL for the most part. I have shipped and received many games from these guys and these 4 questions have alway been asked in one form or another so i would say that fault goes to whoever set up the shipping. However, three people to move an arcade machine up the steps is absolutely ridiculous, i'm 130 pounds on a good day and always carry these things up and down 16 steps with only one other person and no dolly. Doorways and stairwells on average are only 36-42" wide and there is physically no room for two people to be on one end of a cabinet. The way i see it, you just got socked an extra charge for the extra guy to do nothing but provide moral support.

Whatever you do make sure to write down any damage you find before signing the paperwork. If the games are wrapped unwrap them, take pictures and write down EVERYTHING on the slip.

I had a pinball shipped to me and they ripped the chocks off the bottom of it (the pieces of wood that the game sits on when not on it's legs. They also broke the corner of the machine as well. I didn't write it down before signing and even though they did compensate me a little bit they didn't pay enough IMHO (only 50% of my claim)

Luckily I had pictures of the game before it was shipped showing the chocks on the back of the game. Needless to say I will never ship a game again.

When I used to ship or require shipping for games I tried both Pilot Air and NAVL. The problem with Pilot air is that you needed to crate the games plus you have to pick up at one of their terminals. Despite the PIA, I never had a problem with Pilot Air and the prices were excellent. I also had many good transactions with NAVL. The problem came when they lost one of my shipments (CD-51 juke). The way I judge a company is how they treat the customer when something goes wrong. Michelle was excellent and really good to talk to you when things went well, but when they lost my shipment she disappeared and was as difficult to contact as someone in the Federal Witness Protection Program. Most people use NAVL since no crating or drop off is required. Since I have most of the games I wanted, I have the time to wait for something locally rather than risk using NAVL again.

I had something similar happen to me. They quoted me a price, then after they had the game, they tried to bill me an extra $275 as they claimed to need a box truck for delivery.

When I declined because they, plus 2 other shippers, as well as Home Depot, Lowe's and 3 people who had houses brought up the road, all did so on 18 wheelers, but suddenly they could not drive one up the road... even though they did so 18 months earlier??

When I refused this, they then tried to hit me with a "remote area" charge of $45. That they didnt quote me to begin with...that they didnt charge me the previous time.

Horrible, I will only use them as a last resort from here on out.

**UPDATE**

Just spoke with NAVL on the phone and they are going to waive the fees. You guys have no idea what a relief it is........ Thank you very much NAVL!

I will take photos and post them when they get delivered. Now I just hope they get here in good condition!
