Hey all! I have been working on building my custom NAOMI cab piece by piece and I finally saved up enough to bite the bullet on a Net DIMM for my birthday. This is how it arrived:

Is there any hope, or is it dead dead?

Side note: I thought it would come with a Zero Key (PIC) chip, but it didn't. Anyone have a resource for those? I'll need to get one at some point.

Let's see the box.

Looks like a lousy packing job. Not enough padding around the perimeter.

Boards must be packed with 2-3" of padding in all dimensions. Shippers need to assume the box will get dropped, kicked, tossed around on conveyor belts, and potentially even torn. But when an item is packed properly, the damage should not extend beyond the box itself.

It was packed poorly. For something like that, I'd have it in an inner box, and then put that box in bubble wrap / packing peanuts with several inches on each side, and then in a larger box.

I'm guessing that was sent USPS. Am I right?

The box is thrashed… to be fair, I feel the seller did an okay job, but it was all soft. Looks like the corner was macerated, going all the way down.

I can probably fix it. I am the only shop that does. Looks like just damaged plastics and the stack connector.
If it didn't break any important traces, it could be just the one connector… cosmetics are bleh now though. Think you could do something?

Looks like it was FedEx. And the carrier doesn't matter when something is packed poorly.

All carriers damage boxes. And it's usually mechanical, from something like a conveyor jam munching a corner, or tearing a side. That's precisely why you have to plan for it when you pack.

I've received far more damaged boxes from people sending me stuff UPS, than I've ever had damage from 2,000+ boards I've sent via USPS in ten years. (With which I've had to file ZERO claims for damaged goods. Yes, zero.)

Your personal biases against the USPS adversely affect your ability to reason clearly.

Yeah, I would take precautions too, for what I paid for it! It was FedEx… and can you believe it, recipients can't file claims lol. No really, the shipper has to!

Unfortunate, too… I read the packing label and they only declared the default value of $100 USD. Stinks for them… I hope they try to make it right.

+1, nailed it. On the shipper to assume the worst and pack accordingly. Reading this, I should've shopped with you! 😄

Ouch! That one is ugly. Looks like it got wet, THEN got caught in something mechanical.

Did FedEx even acknowledge the damage when they delivered it? Or did it just show up that way?

When USPS damages a package that bad, they at least put it in a bag with a note acknowledging the damage.

Also, +1 for Ken/irepairsega. He's the guru here for that stuff. If anyone can fix it, it'll be him.

Take the $100 - it will help reduce the pain of @irepairsega fees.

No–no note, remark, or otherwise. The online tracking even said, "Your package was released and safely delivered." LOL.

Ken Westerfield is my spirit animal.

if anyone among us deserves like an A&E Biography it's him.
High praise! @irepairsega, I'll be sending you a PM!

Update to the saga: seller wants me to initiate return for a full refund including return shipping, so it looks like I'm again back to the drawing board and going shopping! If anyone has a tip on sourcing a quality product or has a go-to, I'd happily take the referral.

Tell us who you bought it from. That's a good seller!

Good shout! Legend HK on eBay. I've learned that they generally have a good reputation, so when I talked to Ken, even he was surprised it came like that. Must've been a really terrible shipping environment. It came via FedEX, not China Post-to-USPS, which he would expect it normally. That was reassuring to hear.

They were super communicative. Even with the time difference, it was hardly a several hours before another message came through. I asked for a lot... I was probably more needy than I should've been, but I'm been on the side of things where sellers have screwed me, so I played hardball. Guess I didn't need to! I hope their FedEX claim goes through (I thoroughly documented it for them), and if I can't find a domestic seller, may try again.
