shipping company for arcade game. Navl said they don't ship arcade games

I'm trying to ship an arcade game from Florida to Colorado. I called North American Van lines they said they no longer ship arcade games is anybody else heard this? I need some suggestions for shipping companies

I just had this discussion with someone by email.
you can search old posts for the person who handles this now.

I havent heard that but maybe try u ship. I got a quote from NAVL a few months ago for movie a machine, weird.

Michelle isn't at NAVL. Everyone just keeps using NAVL as shorthand for some reason, when they haven't shipped games for years.

Michelle is at STI, Judy works with her.

I had a game shipped with these guys and it was damaged.

Many others have had better success.

Just make sure the game is insured properly.

I've called Darlene (STI/Beltman Logistics) at 630-576-5086. She's with their coinop division apparently (or at least that's what the "hold music" says). Shipped twice with them. Once was a big ball bowler and EM gun game from St. Louis to the NY metro area; second time was 3 cabinets from Florida to same destination. Everything arrived in good condition both times, but of course, YMMV. Prices were acceptable too.

Edit: I also just shipped the Swords of Fury (pinball) I sold from NY to Colorado. Buyer said it got to him in the same condition it left my house.

I had two buyers in the last couple months buy games from me to go from colorado to the north east. Both used YRC Freight. They did it all online. I palleted and wrapped the games for them. Both paid around $400-500 to ship their games door to door. One game arrived in perfect condition. The other had a nasty tear on the front edge of the package....but the damage was minor. YRC was good and cheap per my experience as a seller but just make sure the game is wrapped and palleted very very well.

Did you try calling Darlene? I'm not sure what the guy in Colorado paid, but I could ask him if you want for reference purposes.

STI dropped my space invaders down my front steps and they laughed about it afterward. If my steps did not have the iron railing the damage would have been worse than just gouges down the side of the once nice paint job. Your mileage may vary. I swear it was their first day as is guy was pushing the cab off the hand truck as it slid down the steps.

How were they about paying the claim?

Robotron Jon, same question to you.

Did they at least make it right afterwards?

I've shipped machines with Michelle via STI 3 times now and the service has varied on the delivery handling end locally. I strongly suggest having the games palletized and wrapped, and giving them strict instructions not to unwrap/unpalletize until they get to their destination. If you don't palletize them, they do wrap them in blankets and shrink wrap, but they take that off at the receiving facility that arranges the local delivery prior to rewrapping them for local delivery. This is a service to make sure that they aren't damaged, but is just a liability thing to protect the local delivery company. Moving the machines around on the dolly period is just asking for trouble (at least with nice machines). They broke leg levelers on 2 machines that I had brought in, and that was the last time i do that...

They do help move them inside, but they are not as careful as I am so last shipment I had them drop them off in the garage and I handled them the rest of the way.

All in all, the experience is fine. You just have to tell them exactly what you want, and plan to avoid any potential situations for folks that just don't gaf to mess up your nice pieces.

Just got a machine last week from Michelle at STI / Beltman. Their website had multiple shippers intermingled, so this may be adding to the confusion. No issues in shipping this time or the dozen times I have used them in the past. They seem to be more familiar with arcade machines then most shippers.

Additionally, I never let them bring the machine into the house. I always have it dropped at the driveway and take care of it myself or with the help of friends. Most issues seem to be when in house delivery or extraction are required.

I have used other shippers in the past and had bad experiences. Once had a palletized Warlords cocktail that was dropped and the monitor was sticking out the base of the cabinet.....still attached to the monitor frame. The other bad experience was an IROBOT that was skewered by a forklift through the body of the cabinet, taking the boards with it. Shipping is always a risk.
