i will be shipping a glass bezel, which is something i have never done before.

does anyone have suggestions on where to get a proper box and packaging for it? I am going to hit up Uhaul by my house after work and see if they have anything that will work for shipping it safely.

Darin from Phoenix Arcade does this all the time. Email him at [email protected] for details.

I purchased both my Robotron and Joust glass bezels from Darin.

His packaging is phenomenal. If I remember correctly, he wrapped each bezel in thin foam. Then that goes inside a box of packing peanuts. Then that box goes inside another box of packing peanuts.

The key here is to use packing peanuts and a box within anohter box.

are they thin boxes like if u were to ship a painting?

i was saying "thin" as in box size....not wall thickness. My bad...i should have worded it better.

Actually, it just occurred to me that I remembered taking pictures of the Robotron bezel unboxing! Looks like the first layer is bubble wrap. I'd say each box was at least a few inches wider than the box/bezel before it. The outside box was a least 8 inches tall. Hope this gives you a good enough idea. (Photos are shown in order of unboxing)

thanks! i appreciate the pics.

Another way - I recently got an Amidar bezel, and it was packed at a UPS store or something - in a mirror type of box. Foam corner pieces on the glass, then a plastic strap all the way around to secure them, then the whole thing in a sturdy box. It arrived in one piece.

Double boxing is the key to shipping glass.

Peanuts are also the best thing between the two boxes. You want something that will absorb some energy.

I bought some of that inch thick 4'x8' insulation for houses and taped a bezel in it and then taped a sturdy cardboard box around it. I shipped it to AZ and it must have made it because I have not heard back from the purchaser.

I seem to remember I've received glass or bezels which were wrapped "a thousand times" with bubble wrap too. (And likely double boxed)

>> I hate styro peanuts :004_stongue:

This was me. I've packed and shipped about 10 glass bezels. I'm 9 out of 10 for successful shipping. The method that worked the best was the Uhaul mirror box kit. I also usually put extra foam across the center to stabilize on both sides. The one time it broke was when I made a custom box out of wood. I almost died when it arrived broken as it was super rare.

Yeah, rigid boxes don't really work. You need something that can absorb a shock, not transfer it to the goods packed inside.
