Z80 has a whole family of chips that are easy to mistake for one another if you aren't familiar with them. SIO (Serial I/O), DMA (Direct Memory Access), DART (Dual Aschronous Receiver / Transmitter), and PIO (Parallel I/O) come to mind.
They also come with different markings. Z80A may also be marked Z80 Z0840004PSC, Z80B marked as Z80 80940006PSC, and there are Z80E and Z80H as well... plus the vanilla Z80 CPU that runs at 2.5MHz. Can get a bit confusing.
To add to it, Sharp has the D780C which is a CMOS Z80 and the D780C-1 which is Z80A and D780C-2 which is Z80B.
None of these are to be confused with Z8 which is a microcontroller of a different family or the Z8002 which is a 16-bit CPU found on Pole Position boards.
Thanks. This was extremely helpful.
