I'm looking at repairing a Sharp XM-2001N (red tent) monitor which seems to have horizontal collapse. (See attached pics)

I've recapped the monitor and B+ is at 108vdc. There is a charred hole underneath the h-size coil. I added the yellow wire to reattach the coil. Tomorrow, I'm going to check R636 that's attached to h-size coil and probe around in the horizontal drive circuit.

Any advice? Not sure how the hole under the coil got there. Seems like a catastrophic failure of this monitor. Note: The monitor was already dead when I got it.

your width coil is broken and may be shorted. i would look for a used donor since they are not available anywhere. the hole is supposed to be there under the width coil.

There's an extra hole where there shouldn't be. The width coil itself looks in good shape. See pics. You don't think that is savageable?

your missing the top and the inside of the width coil so there is no where for the slug to go without shorting out.

Ah ok. Now how to find one... I see G07 h-width coils. Would this work at all or do I need a coil specifically designed for this monitor? I'm not an analog guy so don't know the characteristics of these coils.

you need to find a used one since the pcb layout is different than others. BTW: the xm2001 and xm1801 look close and in a pinch will interchange but they have a different uH range than each other. (the 1801 is shorter and less windings than the taller 2001 coil.)
