The new Red tent i just picked had only one working monitor. i replaced a blown fuse in the non working one put it back in and it made a very very loud hissing followed by a very loud POP...im in the process of doing a cap kit now but doubt that will fix the problem..but maybe.. nothing noticeably

More likely than not, you have a bad yoke. The Sharp XM1801N's are notorious for them, and that is the hissing/crackling sound that you hear.

Thanks i some how new you would answer this post :D... im pretty new at monitors other than adjustments and cap kit..im still pretty green with them...
is this something that is fixable? or do i need to replace and if so how?

-Thanks

So far in my experience it is not fixable without replacing the yoke with a known good one. They are pretty elusive from what I have seen.

Well, get a meter and check the yoke before you give up on it. It might have been a cap blowing, especially if you replaced the fuse with one larger than what was called for (not saying you did)....

Can someone tell me how to test a yoke? i believe it called for a 2.5 and all i had was a 3. so yea i did.

Put your meter on the sub-200-ohm setting, and measure between the red and blue yoke wires, and then between the green and yellow yoke wires. You hope for no zero readings, and no overload readings...

You would need a flyback tester, or you can turn off the lights and watch for the lightning show. Check ing the fly would be next.

what is the difference between the fly and the flyback?

also is there a flyback replacement for this monitor?

Thanks

im still working on trying to fix my red tent monitor..i tested the flyback i did what you suggested and turned out the light and turned it on.. What i saw was what looked like a lightning storm inside the glass part on the neck..instead of a glow it was pretty much white and loud..i immediately shut if off. Does this sound like a bad flyback? i did buy the one from chad and have it here ready to go i just wanted to make sure i was doing the right thing.

-Thanks
