I'm looking for red ball top 4/8 way joysticks, preferably leafs, that are NOT very deep in the base.
(limited space under control panel)
They're for a cocktail cabinet project I'm starting on.
I need to do some measuring before I actually know what might fit, just looking for ballpark direction to look in.
Any suggestions?

Anyone ever try any joysticks from here - http://www.happmart.com/Products.aspx?sid=46

Which cocktail is it? Most normal upright joyticks will fit a cocktail, unless it's something like a Galaxian or Scramble....

Bingo.
I have a craptacular Galaxian cocktail I want to Multi.
(trust me... it's in horrible shape throughout)

The joysticks you and others mentioned in that thread may just do the trick.

Once I finish getting the panels apart I'll try and get some ballpark measurements.
I've read other peoples projects with a Galaxian cocktail and they seem to route the lower wood panel to make something fit, I'd rather not do anything like that.

EDIT: Just realized jammaboards.com showed out of stock. :p

I put a regular joystick and the newer long buttons in a Galaxian CT. What I did was cut out holes in the wood base and then put a metal plate over the hole underneath. The extra space gave enough room for the joystick and buttons, and the metal plate (painted black and attached with screws) was not seen (unless you were lying on the floor).

I had a harder time breaking the welded lever brackets off the CP so I could drill a round hole for the joystick. I guess I could've bought the new joystick CP's from Arcadeshop....

There used to be an adapter plate that went over the hole if you router it out. Scramble cocktails had the same shape to their CP's (I just did one Friday) and had that plate on it. They had the hole done at the factory, so the plate was part of the original cab. it had a "divot" in it so that the corner of the wico base would fit...

Cool... that'll give me some ideas and options depending on what I find joystick wise.

And yeah, I was eyeballing those spot welds planning my attack on them. I've knocked many loose in the past on different things, shouldn't be toooo bad.
Hardest part is the overlays are in great shape, the crud on them has literally protected them. So I'm trying to do this and save those.

Well, I put new Galaxian overlays on, but if you can make a good round cut where the levers are now, you'll be fine. I also added a 2nd button...

Did you center up on the original hole or move it down just a bit ?
I was thinking of offsetting it down a bit, just enough to still take out the old hole. (line up with the top edge of the old hole)

I also added a 2nd button...

I was pondering whether to try and add the second button. But wasn't sure of how to locate and make it seem like it was meant to be there.

What I did was drill it so the top of the original hole lined up with the top of the new hole. Make sure you get those welds off underneath first.

I put the 2nd button just to the right of the original button. I think it was just a hair off the CPO, but I can't remember...
