I'm planning on picking up a decent SFII in a 25" monitor dynamo but a couple things are off.

Playing as Blanka, whenever you do a throw (his biting) instead he turns into Ryu who does a slo-mo Shoryuken instead, then reverts back to Blanka. Huh? Is this an error or weird board?

Also, as Ryu/Ken I can very rarely do the Shoryuken or the Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku. It's almost like 4-way joysticks are installed. What should I replace them with?

Blanka changing into other characters would happen on the weird Rainbow edition. If this is true, you should be able to throw fireballs with Ken and Ryu in mid-air and a few other "glitchy" upgrades.

Yeah there's a whole bunch of different hacks/bootlegs of these. Some are referred to as Rainbow, some Red Wave, mostly because of the gradient that the main title is in instead of the normal yellow/blue after it does it's spinning thing. A picture of the board and a picture of that screen would help ID it. I have most of the bootleg roms in mame, I'll take a spin through them and check for the Blanka thing. Also, you should be able to change characters mid-match by hitting the p1 or p2 start buttons.

I really have no interest in these hacked boards at all. Anyone have a good ol' SFII CE (working) they want to send to Toronto?

I guess the Lizard Licks are the best joys to get but what about the buttons? I need to replace two blues so I might as well do them all - suggestions?

For the sake of vid pron (everyone likes pics, right?), this is what I will be picking up. Needs a bit of work. Don't care for the chrome t-molding much.

Happ Competition joysticks (which LL carries, http://www.lizardlick.com/Happ-Joysticks_c_162.html) are the general standard for fighting game cabs. If you're just replacing the two buttons, for color matching if it's a relatively dark blue http://www.lizardlick.com/Happ-Pushbuttons_c_154.html will do it, if it's an older control panel and they're a lighter blue I think the IL blue is a match. I have no idea what the difference is between the Happ competition and Happ classic pushbuttons is other than 15 cents a piece.

*e* Ha, awesome. Looks like there's 1 each of the IL and Happ blue buttons. I think the reds are the same though I think the IL red and Happ red are the same. I'd say wait until you get the cabinet, see what's in there that's good and what needs to be replaced, you probably only need a couple of them to get back to the red/white/blue normal color scheme.

My bad, they looked convex to me. In that case, yeah the happ standard (concave) are the ones to go with. And I think the full replacement set I got of 2 competition sticks and the button assortment I got off of ebay. If a bunch of the hardware already in the control panel is good and will get the job done, no sense in spending a bunch of extra money tho, except maybe to have some backup parts.

I got it. It's not hyper fighting but it is fast, I can shoot a fireball in the air and Blanka turns into Ryu sometimes (?). Some kinda of hack, I guess. I already replaced the joys with Lizard Lick's IL Eurojoysticks. Control is definitely better than the old joys but I still can't rattle off Shouryukens as easily as I remember. :(

I remember reading about that hack... may be rainbow roms?

I don't know but I can't change characters with the P1/P2 buttons. Blanka just looks like Ryu doing a slo-mo Shouryuken whenever he does his 'bite'.

I can't throw multiple fireballs either. Just the one but the 'Jab' ones are really slow, 'Strong' curves upwards and 'Fierce' is super fast.

I would pull the Chips 21-23 and send to someone to get reburned as Hyper Fighting roms.
Your board should be a HF board as it's designation is got the ' standing for Dash... the name of HF in Japan. They burned over your original Capcom chips.

A few guys here could do that for you for a fee. Mitsurugi is one of them.

This is strange since the chips that are usually replaced for the Rainbow and other hacks, which I circled in the pix attacdched, appear to be original.

This sounds like a good idea. Couldn't I just have new roms sent to me so there isn't any SF2 downtime?

Do you guys want any other pics for curiosity's sake?

Knew that set of things sounded familiar. Just tried sf2v004 in mame and it sounds like a dead ringer for the one you have. Can't change characters w/ the start button, fireballs are the same, blanka bite ryu thing is there. It's also super high speed like the clock speed is bumped up or something, is that the case with the one you have? I don't think you'd mentioned that bit in the thread but it's late and my brain's fuzzy.

I don't mean to be a pain in the ass or "that guy", but Dash is CE. Dash Turbo is HF. *pushes glasses up to his face...straightens pocket protector*

+1 that recommendation. HF > Rainbow every day all day.
