SF Chronicle Article

Great article. Your house looks so much better than the original. Do you have to move the games in through the house, or do you have a separate entrance in the arcade for the games?

We put in double doors in the arcade that goes out to the side of the house. The plans had 2 steep steps going in with a tiny 2ft. landing. That wasn't going to work with my games so in construction we changed it to a side deck with two steps 5 ft. apart. Once you get to the door it's level. The inspector made us re-summit the plans the way we changed them which costs us an extra $3k in permits. Lesson learned, make sure plans are exactly what you are going to build.

Very cool Brett! An enjoyable read indeed. Hopefully, my wife and I (and baby) will be able to swing by in a few weeks and celebrate with you and your wife. :)

Nice article/house. How did you fit 36 games in a 1,700-square-foot house and have room left for actually living there? Is that 1,700 square feet the whole thing or just the main level and the basement arcade is another 1,700?

1,700 sq. ft. is a mansion in the Bay Area. I think the arcade is about 500 sq ft. We have 2 small bedrooms and it's pretty comfortable for 2 people. If we would ever have kids (which we're not) I would have to get rid of the games or move.

Its weird , the arcade games relax me too . If I'm laying in bed and I'm trying to sleep , if I think about my games it relaxes me and I fall sleep .

Congrats to Brett! Great picture, too...I totally agree. As much as I appreciated the article that came out with you and me in it back in '07, the photo of me was not flattering  :

From my expression, you'd think I was addicted to all manner of bad stuff when in fact I'm as straight as an arrow (probably too much so, but hey, that's who I am :) ), and I love this hobby as y'all know as it's brought nothing but fun and joy into my life, whether it's the games themselves, or the people I've met who share the interest.

Anyway, congrats again to Brett!

It actually looks like Arcade Games make you very sad.

Must be a California smog thing. I too have got up in the middle of the night unable to sleep went downstairs and played a couple games of Donkey Kong and went back to bed and slept great.
