I received my first 4-slot NeoGeo board today and I've had a little trouble getting it to work properly. I wanted to check and see if there is something I am doing wrong in the setup or if I received a faulty board.

It turns on OK but it will not output the full sound properly - just sound effects and not the full BGM. I cannot get into the test mode unless I set the DIPSW 1 to ON but when there I can only move the arrow up and down, it won't select anything. Coin slot 1 is unresponsive but coin slot 2 works. Keep in mind, I just pulled a 1-slot NG out of this and it had none of these problems.

Could be board need a good cleaning? It looks dusty inside, I tried a can of air but the dust looks like it will need more direct cleaning to come off. If that doesn't take care of it, is there anything else I can do?

Thanks

The Neo Geo 2/4/6 slot boards are all MVS wiring and not JAMMA. There are a couple of differences around audio (MVS=stereo, JAMMA=mono) and some extra buttons. Also, IIRC, the test button is moved.

You can find the manual for it with pinouts over at http://www.hardmvs.com

Thanks for the link! Should I unplug it for now to avoid damage?

Plugging the multi-slot Neo Geo boards into a JAMMA cab won't hurt them.

Plugging a JAMMA board into a Neo Geo cab that's wired for stereo audio WILL hurt the JAMMA board.

OK, while looking at the harness I am baffled by one thing - the coin slot 1 appears to be the same thing on both JAMMA and MVS harnesses. With any other board the coin 1 works but it's not working with the MVS. It's wired up correctly so I don't see what I'm missing here to get that to work right. Does the grounding need to be changed?

EDIT: OK I see the difference with the part talking about coin switch #3 needing to be wired up for P1 credits to work. I am a noob with this so what exactly is this talking about? The ground from the #1 coin switch needs to go here or something else?
