Really?! I love me some old NES games and I know most factory sealed games are very rare, but this is way overboard.Plus the fact that you have to be so careful as not to damage it,for if the slightest damage does occur, the value is almost completely gone.
No thanks.I bet some very shrewd KLOVers have probably purchased a roomful of games for the current high bid.

Wow. You should see the Nintendo World Championship Gold Cartridges. AKA The Holy Grail of NES Collectors. Supposedly those have sold for a good 15-20K.

CIB Mega Man opened in good condition usually sells for around $100. However, I don't see the logic in spending almost a $1000 on one that's sealed. I guess if you're a hardcore collector with money to burn.

Yeah, I've seen Super Mario 64 sealed (N64 of course) listed for $500.

Stupid, if you ask me.

Spend the money on a damn cab...a clean working one for that price!

Or a pinball machine...

Yeah,I love the Mega Man series and I love old NES games, but there's no way in hell I'm spending that kind of money for a sealed game.Hell,I could buy a complete near mint to mint condition one, take it to a friend and have him seal it up similiarly to the way the it was done and a lot of people wouldn't even notice the difference.

Oh well,to each their own.I just would hate to always have to handle that thing like it's an active bomb.

"For the pictures, I removed the game from the display box but did not remove it from the plastic bag."

That would make me a little suspicious. From the pictures, it's hard to tell where the factory seal is vs. the bag seal. There are very many people who sell "Factory Sealed" games but in fact they are just resealed. I think at some point places like GameStop would get used games in and reseal them for resale. Some people now have those listed as "factory sealed". Don't know if thats the case here, but if you're trying to sell something for a grand, pull it out of the bag.

Ha ha. That Stadium Events is rare stuff. Thats like the story of a guy who stopped at a garage sale and found one of the World Games cartridges at a yard sale. Apparently the seller used to work at Nintendo and had all kinds of rare stuff and was just trying to get rid of it, but didn't have a clue to it's value.

I guess you could look at it like any other collectible. Sometimes you just get very very lucky.

I still have a hard time understanding someone paying $10,000 for a Nintendo cart.

At some point it crosses over from "Nintendo cart" to "investment". Its highly unlikely the buyer is going to pay for it, open it up and start playing it like its the new Assassins Creed. But when you put it like that, it does seem silly.

I never played Nintendo. I didn't play any video games during that period.

I really can't relate to the desirability of these carts, even as an investment.

But next time I am at the thrift store, I'll be looking through their pile of old NES carts.

I too saw that Stadium Events auction. It went for 13,000 something. While this game is in amazing condition, and it's possibly one of the finest specimens you'll ever find- that price is crazy. There's a small portion of collectors out there, believe it or not, that don't play the games they buy. Factory sealed game collectors are a strange group of people, that most collectors don't even understand.

I read the thread and the consensus was that it went for cheap. Had the person attempted a private sale they could have fetched upwards of $17k+.

Wow.

For that much money, watch and see whether or not it shows up again.

Wouldn't be surprised if the buyer drops out...

The Mega Man cart ended up going for $1425. The Castlevania $510 and the Ghosts N Goblins for $700+. What kills me is that the Mega Man and GnG auctions were sniped.Usually you snipe to get it on the cheap....$1425,$700,and $510 for a sealed NES cart is sure as hell not cheap! I had a sealed Final Fantasy that I bought several years ago on ebay for $50.That's cheap!Leave it to crazy ebayers to go to extremes in overpaying.

The mainstream press is starting to report this story.

I wonder who bought it.

On a whim, I went to the local thrift superstore and they had a bunch of Izzy's Quest for the Olympic Rings, sealed, for $1.99 each.

I checked on line and they aren't even worth that.
