Ok I decided to start working on the armour attack and star castle machines I took in, now I'm afraid to plug them in, whats the worst that can happen?

There's probably a pretty good list of things you should do or check before plugging it in. May not want the monitor connected when you do.

The consequences of that could be disastrous. I forsee two possibilities: One, coming face to face with the fact of plugging it in could put you into shock, and you'd simply pass out, or two, the encounter could create a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum and destroy the entire universe! Granted, that's a worst case scenario. The destruction might, in fact, be localized, limited merely to our own galaxy, or your home arcade.

They would've come up and played fine.

But, now that you've asked the question, ask yourself: what happens on television and in movies after someone asks this question? :D

Hahahahaha *catches breath*
Ahahahahahahaha

I guess I just need to plug them in, I did disconnect the monitor looks like tube is blown from the start...we will see what happens...BTW I have no balls...

what makes you think the tube is blown?

if you cant see any physical damage what i suggest you do it just power the monitor on without the defectors and the hv unit attached, you can even disconnect the yoke connector, have the neck board/connector on the tube of course.when you power it on,be sure to have your nose and eyes on the monitor chassis (obviously from a distance) and see if the neck glows.if it does the tube should be fine.if you smell or see probs power down and suss out whats wrong and where.

power it on without anything attached to the harness and check the volatges at the connectors, even with bad voltages you can still plug some things in as long as they are not way over the ratings.

if you plug the monitor chassis in the way i said without things attached and the circuit breakers hold then your monitor board might have faults but,at least it aint making the breakers trip.and of course you can check neck glow the way i described.

star castle board will flash a led for like 1 second and give an explosion sound.if that happens then the boards might be ok but, crediting the board and seeing if it plays blind will tell you if its playing.

now if you attach the deflectors 1 at a time while power is off, then turn on and if the circuit breakers hold the delfectors might be ok,just attach them 1 at a time.that way you will find out if any of them is faulty or even both, its just a process of elimination.

to test the hv unit,it has 25v going in,it produces 400v,90v and another voltage (forgot it) and that is going out to the connector 9not into the hv unit) you can probe the connector for it while its powered and connected at its connector,if you get no voltages coming out,the hv unit is faulty.

that a lot of info,i got a star castle and i have had to go through this myself.

i have gameboards playing blind, the voltages to the monitor chassis ar okish but,a little suspect.i got 1 bad deflector and the hv unit produces no output voltages.

biltronix site has a good star castle retore thread, parts lists for rebuilds and will help you.i got most of the components from digikey for the hv unit today from usa to uk using his links and its was realy great to have that site at my disposal.just didnt get all the components,i will be rebuilding the hv unit hopefully this week.

the star castle manual has all the info on the wiring and volatge ratings.it even has tips on upgrades to perform.

hope this helps a bit even though its a bit info heavy.

and last of all good luck.
:)
