SEMS tapping screw - like on WG6100, K7000, that holds the chassis down..

I'm burning the midnight oil, looking for a very specific fastener. Usually, if you can figure out the weird name of a fastener, you can find it on McMaster Carr. Not this one..

Ya know the 1" long screw with the free spinning attached washer - it holds the K7000 chassis to the plastic inserts in the frame. Also used to hold the WG6100 chassis down..

Best I can figure out, it's referred to as a SEMS tapping screw. I think it would be #8, but not sure. It wouldn't be metric, but maybe a metric size is nearly bang on.

It's not crucial, I could use a similar screw and washer, but it's fun and rewarding to find the exact part online, and for cheap.

FWIW, some of them have the loose washer, but I've seen some where the 'washer' is part of of the head (i.e., it's just one big head).

Anyway, it looks like you're on the right path. Subscribed anyway, to see what people come up with.

Interested in what you find for this fastener. Lots of Atari fasteners that I'd like to locate.

I wonder if there would be a way for us to create a media space in the forums where we could add links/drawings/etc for this kind of stuff. I've located a bunch of crimp connectors (about as exact as I could find) for Atari harness's and put them up in my restore threads but the likeyhood anyone will ever find it is probably low. It would be great to have that as a resource to start with.

Thanks, I'll check that out. I always use McMaster Carr, but I've seen Pinside post point to that (I think you actually..). What I like about McMaster Carr is you can click on the specific item and see an engineering drawing and there's a phone app. It's nuts. (literally!)

Yea that boltmax site looks like it's got everything but without anything showing what it actually looks like it would seem to be a gamble as to what you receive.

Can you post a picture?

Most of these are readily available at Ace Hardware or Home Depot or Lowes.

We have a nice, pretty new Ace. They have a LOT of oddball stuff I wouldn't have found at Lowes. However, I could not find either of these (will post pic below from phone). The short one is used to secure the ground wires to the 6100 frame, attach the HV box to the frame. The long one with free spinning washer is from WG6100, but secures the deflection board to the plastic standoffs. I've seen the exact same fastener on the K7000, same use.

I did find the short screw (I've seen both like this and one with attached star washer used) at McMaster Carr:

Thanks for the picture.

I would suggest you go to AutoZone or O'Reillys or Napa with that screw. It's an automotive fastener - they may have it on their spinner racks.

The other one is just a shouldered screw. I just threw a bunch of stuff like this out, since I had it sitting in bins for years and never used it. Argh.

without the bolt to actually measure, these look pretty close for the bolt with washer-

I suspect the ground screw is just a regular electrical ground screw like you see on every outlet and switch. -
