I thought I would start a thread to see how people feel about gift payment requests from sellers.

I paid this way for awhile, until there were some major problems with some sellers. They were stealing money, and sending nothing!!

Before these problems where people were getting ripped off, I was using the gift Tab so much that Paypal started asking questions about some of my transactions.

A few months ago stopped paying this way. Its not that I dont trust the people here. Most sellers here are awesome. But paying using the Gift tab totally screws me out of any chance of getting my money back if something goes wrong, like not receiving anything!! Something that happened to many buyers a few short months ago.

Its nothing personal against any sellers here. If you are worried about paypal fees bump your selling price bit to cover, but please dont ask me to give up my protection for a few dollars:)

How does everyone feel about paypal gift payments???

well I have made several deals lately and one in particular has me worried. It is a longtime member who has perfect feedback, but hasn't posted here in 4 months. Though he does lurk and offered me some mario bros control panels for sale.

He pm'd me to offer me the cp's for sale.

well I sent him payment as gift and he told me his wife shipped them last monday. No dice yet.

I looked at my account and it was sent as gift payment, and I am kind of behind a rock on this one. I am just hoping they show now.

don't get me wrong, there are probably 50 or more guys that I would have NO ISSUE sending gift as payment.
I will be more careful from here on out.
I mean if a guy posts every day, he has several thousand posts and perfect feedback you should send it as gift.

Asking outright for a Gift payment is ridiculous from a seller. But if a buyer wants to go below asking price, then a request for a gift payment from the seller isn't such a horrible request. And if the buyer doesn't want to pay that way and their not willing to pay the asking price then they can say "no" and walk away.

I havent had any trust issues with a buyer or seller yet. My big fear is getting caught in the act from PayPal. I think they will get wise to it eventually and might "try" to charge penalties to obvious "transactions". Lets face it, PayPal is not a bank but they still have access to my accounts. Id rather pay a few bucks and be right about it. Besides, PayPal fees are nothing compared to eBay fees.

Gift payment only for sellers with 10000 posts or more...

off topic but when did you become Encyclopedia Submission Moderator...damn thats a mouthful....

I do request gift payment when buyers ask for a discount on listed prices...if I have dealt with people before I have no problems sending payments as a gift..for example DJDNS and I do business often so I have no problem sending him a gift payment...besides I know where he lives..lol

I had Paypal question 2 of my gift payments. One was for a spendy machine, the other was around $150. There was no real way for them to prove anything, but with that and the other problems people were having, I stopped using it. To be fair to eveyone here, I dont do it at all anymore.

It doesnt make me upset when im asked to use gift tab, but I just feel bad when I tell them I dont use it period!!

I think if sellers wants to request Gift Tab, it should be posted in there sale listing. Maybe list 2 prices one with, and one without.

I have personally never requested paypal gift payment, and wont.

My advice to sellers if your worried about the fees, price a bit higher.

If it's a regular member who's esteemed I usually send it as a gift whether they ask or not, so they don't have to pay the fees.

As a matter of fact, I just did about 2 hours ago.

I was doing that for a long time. Most of the time the Seller was not even requesting it. Thats prob why paypal started asking questions.

i have as well, however i wouldn't take the chance outside of anyone that's well known to me, and especially if it was a high risk thing.

I'll pay the fees for the seller and pay goods, that way we both are covered.
I look at the few extra dollars as insurance.

generally I don't send funds as a gift but occasionally I will give a seller I don't know the benefit of the doubt if it's not a lot of money. Not that I want to get screwed out of any money but it's not a big deal to lose $20-30. If I get screwed I just figure it's a $20-30 lesson and I let others know not to deal with this person.

you know what? i have never thought about it that way. i never thought about it being giving up your financial protection, but that makes sense. i usually ask people to send cash as a gift when i print the shirts, and didn't think about it. from now on i will just include the paypal fee into the shirt price. sorry if me doing this caused anyone to be skeptical about doing a transaction with me. as i said, i didn't even think about that.

Mike, I have not purchased from you. I have been eyeing your Burgertime Tee, and really should buy one. I would not mind throwing in some extra to cover your fees. Your Shirts seem to be a very good deal anyway:)

I guess my point is really with more expensive items, as P1899M stated $20-$30 may be worth the chance. Items im really talking about are over $100.

I sent a gift payment for $900 once, thats sticking your neck out there!!

thanks! i try keep the prices low because i'm not really trying to make a ton of loot, i just like printing these shirts for fun, but after the pp fees i start to almost get into the negative. if you wanted to order one and throw an extra buck or two on there, that's way cool with me brother.
