Hey guys,

New guy here, and noob to this whole arcade scene. Have always wanted to have a couple arcades and I just bought my own house not too long ago so I treated myself to a 1992 Sega Virtua Racer. Once I have this one fixed up I'm going to get a Daytona USA. :)

Anyway getting back on topic, the left monitor works, the right monitor does not. I can hear sound and the buttons work and a new game starts but nothing on the screen. After digging around in the back I found a blown fuse which I can trace back to a transistor that is shorting out.

The monitor is a WG, and appears to have a Zenith picture tube. The transistor part number is MJ15023. When I search this bad boy on the internet I come up with this transistor here: http://www.newark.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?SKU=78M7053&CMP=AFC-GB100000001

Am I to assume this is safe to use? It appears to be a Motorola transistor dealing in high power audio. I don't want to do any damage, and again noob here so thought I would ask you guys if this would be ok to replace with this part! If anyone here has replaced one of these before and can help me out I would greatly appreciate it!

Ahhh thanks! Now I know I have a WG K8000. Great site, will definitely bookmark this. I'm not seeing the part number though. Its the power supply board that the transistor is on which is the P649 board on page 4. http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Monitors/Wells_Gardener_K8000.pdf P104 is the number on the board that is the issue. I see HS 0100 194-1 is that the part number? Again sorry for the dumb questions!

I see what you are saying now. The location ID for the transistor is Q100 and the part number is 194-1. This isn't the complete manual so it doesn't spell out what that part number's specifications are. Let me see if I can find it in another manual...

The Newark page wouldn't load for me earlier but now that it is available I see that it is a good replacement piece.

If I were in your shoes I'd go ahead and recap the entire chassis when I replace the transistor. Bob Roberts is my go to guy of choice for cap kits however it looks like the 8000 series chassis you have is not well documented. http://www.therealbobroberts.net/k8000.html

I'd contact Bob and ask what is included in the kit as well as ask him if he stocks a replacement part for your transistor (I don't see it but I didn't look for any cross-reference numbers either). He is really easy to deal with - send him an email outlining any questions and the additional parts you need and then he will email you an invoice along with shipping your parts. He only accepts checks/money orders through snail mail as payment though...

Thank you for all your help, time, and advise! I got the transistor today and I look forward to testing it out to see if that is actually my problem or not. I am most definitely going to contact Bob and see about his kit, I would like to make this bad boy last a long as possible.

Out of curiosity, where are you located?
There isn't anything listed in your profile..

BTW, great game!
