Hi I picked up a Sega Turbo Outrun over the weekend. The guy I got it from lived in a 2nd floor apt and had the steering wheel shake and sound turned off.

By changine the pin switches on the control board I have gotten as far as getting like the music to work and the steering wheel shakes but I can not figure out how to get the like driving and engine sounds to work..... Wonder what I am doing wrong ?

thanks
Bill

Maybe some that has one can look in the back and give me the switch setup they are using on the switch.... please..........!!!!

Sound is an all or nothing sort of deal, not just the music or driving sounds separately.
Dip switch 3 on the shorter switch board controls all sound for the game.

If you're not getting game sound, check and reconnect the connectors to the PCB.

Not sure how much difference there is between (original) Out Run and Turbo Out Run PCBs, but I think it is very little.... I've got an original Out Run.

As another poster pointed out, I don't believe there are seperate controls for music and other in-game sounds. So if you're hearing the music, but missing the other sounds (engine, passing, crashing, ocean waves, etc.), then I think there is a problem somewhere (not just a dipswitch).

Go into diagnostics and run the ROM & RAM test. Is everything "OK", or are there one or more bad RAM/ROMs?

The main hardware the runs the sound is: the Z80 CPU on the main board, a YM2151, and come cusom flat chip for PCM. Talking about the Z80, that reminds me... I think I've read that some Turbo Outruns had a battery-backed encryption key thingy on their 68000 and/or Z80 chips. Look at your main board and see if you have any funny looking black boxy type things sitting on top of any of the big chips...
