I'm wiring up choplifter here. The manual says +5v4a. The arcade PSU I have says +5v12a. Is this a problem?

Nope, no problem at all... the 4a means it requires 4 amps (but doesn't always use all 4 amps)... the new power supply is just saying that can supply 12 amps. All that is important is that the voltage is the same, and that the current is the same or higher.

I wired up a Choplifter JAMMA adaptor recently to test two boards I have. Found one synced on negative sync, and the other synced on positive sync. Couldn't see any differences between the two boards, but otherwise they worked perfectly...

My concern here is that I blew another choplifter board by wiring ALL the GND and +5v leads at the same time, so I had 4 gnd, 4 +5v and when I plugged it in, there was a pop and nothing happened. I can't afford to cook another board here. This time I only wired 1 line to the ground and 1 line to the 5v. I already plugged it in briefly at like +4v and the LED on the board didn't light. I'm afraid to burn a second board here.
