Aren't those the systems that loaded the ROMs off a floppy?

BTW, look up my recent "PCBs you've been looking for forever" thread, I believe someone there mentioned Hot Rod.

I love Sega hardware, and I can tell you it won't bring much beyond parts costs. This system needs a medium res monitor to work and it uses an old floppy disc as storage. Medium res monitors are very expensive and floppies suck as a storage medium.

That's pretty cool that it loads from a floppy drive. It would be potentially decent to develop homebrew for I guess haha.

Nah, you would want to homebrew for a system that people actually have, otherwise no one would be playing it other than the developer.

Thanks for that Tornadoboy, It was me that was looking for it :)

Pm sent!

Let us know if you get it to work, hopfully someone has created a hack to get around using a floppy. They're like DECO cassette systems, the boards are relatively easy to get but finding tape decks and cassettes that actually WORK is pretty tough. Some of the games for that board were pretty cool, I always liked Crackdown.

Will be a mission and a half, but I love a good arcade challenge! And love the game

As far as i know, you can make a copy of the floppy from a working machine, cant remember the details it was such a long time ago I researched it, but i think its a dip on startup. If i'm lucky enough to get the board, expect an endless tech thread coming to a KLOV near you...

Haha true, but as a development curiosity it would be fun. ;) I guess I'll have to go with Sega STV homebrew or something. haha.

I have a dedicated Sega System 24 cab with Super Masters. I could test those boards for you and make copies of the floppy discs (if they still work). Hot Rod is one of the games that doesn't use a security chip, so I'd like to try the disc in my setup to see if it works. If you can make me a working copy of the floppy discs let me know.

I think if I had that board, I'd try to convert it to a Scramble Spirits

Good luck with the quest.

Oh, thats actually what the other board is! I just looked at the sticker on it and its labeled and I can see "spirits" really light on one side. Is there any number that I could use to verify if thats really the game?

If you look at the link you can see a picture of what the pcb supposedly looks like. Don't know if its a generic for the system or an actual pic of different boards. Or even if you can pick up any real details. But its worth a look.
