I had parked a Golden Axe at my sister's place. Went by and turned it on yesterday and was greeted with a non-playing machine. I've looked around to try and identify the symptoms of a dead battery on a board, but can't seem to get a firm answer. I know some of them were only in the audio part, which would kill the sound. What would a dead battery on a Golden Axe board do?

Just trying to start with the most obvious problem and work backwards...

The reason I ask is because I still get screen lines (far right and some small lines on the bottom) but it's not playing blind. I didn't know if sync issues were part of the deal. Like the board was still sending info to the screen, but the lack of the security ROM telling it what to do is making those lines.

It's $40 for a new CPU and decrypted roms that only he has. How else would you do it? Plus Razoola charges the same for CPS2.

This might be a stupid question, but I'm new to this phoenixing business and I agree with the dead battery society that the information should be available to everyone.

Wouldn't it just be a simple matter of buying the roms from him and then dumping them? Couldn't you then give the dump to anyone who needed it? Surely someone here has done it.

Why don't you suggest that reproduction artwork or high score save kits be free? Some are, some aren't. I doubt TOG, Phoenix Arcade or Braze would consider your request, but there are plenty of sources for artwork and high score saves, just not at the quality that they provide. It's pretty much the same here. Raz has the information on CPS2Shock on how to Phoenix your own CPS2 board, but nobody else wants to do it, so he charges for the service.

With that being said, search "Phoenix" in MAWS and see what you get.

40$ is a small price to pay for working sega 16 audio.

if it was altered beast i'd say try bobroberts as that's where i got mine, unfortunately i still have no "RISE FROM THE GRAVE" goodness.

Of course anyone can dump the roms if aquired. As for audio I think that's only Shinobi. Everything else just completely dies.

well, i have some of them if anyone need (not as a dump result, but as a result of little work with MAME knowledge) ;)

I'm interested in your MAME knowledge, if it might result in being able to generate unencrypted SEGA code which could run on a standard 68000... Please PM me (or share here if you wish).

I agree, I'd like to hear more as well. Stealing art is one thing, but hoarding information that could lead to games being unavailable unless you pay someone is kinda silly.

The decrypted ROMs were recently available at: http://dion.byethost5.com/?cat=1 (DO NOT go to this site, it is an advertising site now)

I got them and rescued my Super Monaco GP. Worked perfectly, also burned the ROMs for my MoonWalker, but that didn't go so well.

Google Cache only has the home page:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...d=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&source=www.google.com

Archive.org (WayBackMachine) has nothing.

I didn't get out there to download all of the ROMs before it disappeared.

Edit: Mirror now available at http://pinballzone.com/tech/fd1094/

I didn't mean to suggest that the ROMs were bad... I think some of the mask ROMs on my board are bad (outside of the ones that were part of the suicide)... My board boots now with your ROMs, where it did not boot previously. I now have graphic corruption, and haven't had time to troubleshoot it further.

The board sat on a shelf for years, so it's entirely possible that something else is wrong with it now.
