All,

End goal is to get a working Wonder Boy PCB.

1) If I bought a Sega System 1/2 board for a different game, eg. Choplifter, would it be possible to switch the roms for the Wonder Boy Roms?

- I assume this is no problem

2) Is it possible the Eproms from MAME roms?

Cheers,

I don't think it's possible with 'just' swapping eproms - should be possible if you are prepared for software and/or hardware mods..

Some Choplifters have an i8751 protection microcontroller for example. I think the Wonderboy System 2 boards have an encrypted CPU - so you'd have to unencrypt it to run on Choplifter. Some boards have a protection PAL. Plus for all sets you need to be able to burn the small 256 byte palette prom's, not just the eproms.

I thought about doing this mod once as I have both a boot and original Choplifter, but found a bootleg Wonderboy instead :)

Thanks Tendrill. I was starting to come across literature mentioning encryption. Hell, the MAME roms are listed as "new encryption".

Looks like I'll have to assess the other options.
