I'd be crazy to buy something like this...wouldn't I? Can anyone tell me about it? Is it a big PITA or the coolest thing ever? Is it just another driving game with tons of hype? Does anyone have any experience with them? Does anyone own one? I think I can get it for $500 or less but the monitor is dead. Is it full of custom chips or one off parts? I never got to play one back in the day and have only heard the legend of folks lined up to take a turn.

My wife may literally murder me to death!

Dude, you should totally get this! It'll fit into your backset and you can sneak it in in the middle of the night. If you wife wakes up just tell her you were getting some cookies...

Once it's inside the house, tell her it's too big to take out of the door, and you can't remember how you got it in...

It's the coolest thing ever!

(for the record I've never played it or even seen it before... but I say go for it!)

You could charge your neighbors and get your money back in a week!!

I really like super GT, beautiful game, but those motion cabinets are huge. Also the board sets aren't cheap, a concern if the game isn't working now. The projection TV could probably be replaced with a new panel TV. The motion might have attracted some players initially, but it isn't amazing or realistic. It just leans the direction away from your turn, so you can feel some "cornering g's".

Unless you just love it, I wouldn't suggest getting it. You're sure to end up spending a lot to get it working and it would probably be very hard to sell later. I'd be surprised if you didn't lose money.

But if you really want the game, go for it! Probably an interesting project.

I like the way you think but I may have to hide out at your house for a while.

I don't think the monitor will be a problem to get going. I love driving games but already have 3. And no I don't love it or have fond memories of the game. But still it is tempting.

It's one of my favorite racing games ever. I had a twin for ~5 years, and played a ton of it (was my go-to for a break from studying for tests in college)... it took forever to get really good at it, though I did eventually get to where I could almost always win the race. Everything about the game is really well polished, even down to the realistic force feedback effect when driving over cobblestone on the one track, but it's definitely still "arcade-y", so it's fun even for beginners (unlike something like F355 where it's almost too much simulation for casual players). And IMO, the graphics are beautiful, even today.

I did eventually sell it to make room for a pair of SF Rush the Rock, then Rush 2049 and Hydro Thunder. Those have a lot more secrets and stuff that give the game depth for both beginners and advanced players... so I'd recommend those if you're looking for something with more adventurous replay value, but Super GT has plenty of replay value if you enjoy honing your skills, figuring out the optimal path for drifting corners, etc. And in setup, you can even set it for "endurance mode" with a bunch of laps, making pit stops, etc.

I didn't know about the endurance mode. And the idea of it somewhere between very challenging and arcade-y is a plus for me. You are making it sound pretty cool.

If anyone with experience in actually owning, operating or repairing one chimes in, I'm all ears. Thanks for the feedback guys, I can always count on KLOV for the goods.

Well I passed on the deal. Seemed to me it had more than monitor issues. Oh well!
