Sega Star Trek upright restoration

He knew what the issue was when I described it and what needed to be done to fix it. But I haven't nagged him and I assume he's been spending his time creating other amazing products.

But I'd still really love to see a fix for this, particularly if he's going to modify the programming to fix the buzzing sound on those 2 games.

My understanding, from reading Mikes description in an old thread, was that these sound modules are pretty faithful reproductions of the original hardware using surface mount parts. If so, getting rid of the buzz on one module would probably be a hardware fix.

I wouldn't be surprised if "fixing the buzzing" is a hardware fix (modification) and not one done in software. Might need to add a filter or change component values.

In any case, I'm encouraged that VL has responded to the Captain and we might get some techy details. Good job. :)

I had the same thought about it being a hardware fix.

Yeah, I'm encouraged too. I know Mike's being asked to build about 50 LETA chips for all the Major Havoc guys (including 1 for me), but I bet he'll figure this out as soon as he has time to look at it.

Before and After pics

Decided to put these all together since I had all the various pics scattered throughout this thread:

you guys with the buzzing, do you all have the VL --> ATX adapter? Reason I ask is that 12VDC fans make a lot of electrical noise. I wonder if the fan in the power supply is the reason for the noise?

Are you using the VL amplifier or the factory Amp?

Buzzing has been confirmed with both the linear (original) and ATX PC (switcher) power solution. Though, I suspect the latter is noisier.

Multisound has 2 modules: Space Fury and Eliminator. Space Fury is quiet, Eliminator is buzzing. Also, the universal sound card has no noise. So it's not the power supply.

So perhaps a layout routing issue or component issue in the Eliminator module section (only).

Right. Since several of us (maybe all of us?) have it I'm guessing it's not a bad part. It really sounds like a grounding issue, but I suppose it could be something used to generate noise that isn't turning off properly.

Mike probably has this layout burned in his brain. He'll figure this out very quickly when he has time to look at it.

not looking to hijack...

I know there are a lot of people in this thread that are familiar with the G08's. I had a strange one come into my shop yesterday and before I power it up I wanted to cross all T's and dot all I's.

As of now there have been 42 views of the thread and not one reply. :( Maybe one of you in here would be so kind to confirm my findings?
