Does anyone make a kit to fix the power supply on a Sega Star Trek?

ask mongo.

my cab doesn't use the original supply - someone hacked in a switcher. I can take a pic of the set up but I don't know much about it. All i know is that it works.

I don't know if there is a kit. But I know they are very basic. Check the diodes for shorts, check the fuses. Check the voltage output.

Be careful when checking those large diodes out. The caps will be holding a charge, and even if you have no wires to the power supply, you can still get a nice spark when you put your meter leads on the diode.

If you'd care to send it to me, I'll fix and test it for you no charge. Just cover the postage. (One caveat, If it's toasted by the connectors I'll have to pass)

I think I can fix it..its just the 5V line thats not working right.

I'm having problems with my power supply too. Thankfully, Mongo has been helping me.

The 5v seems to be the problem so I'm going to replace the TIP141. I did notice it looks like there was something cooking by the AC connector.

Wonder if this is the kind of "toasted" Hans was referring to?

Yup looks like you board has been toasted, I would say. Someone modded it to bypass, the damaged area. I would do a diode check on those diodes. Be careful, a meter can
short those caps, and you'll get a wake up call....

If you diodes are not shorted out, then I would check the regulators mounted to the heat sink. I read somewhere that when the TIP141 goes, it can take your board set with it.

Well, I replaced the TIP141 and that did the trick!

I got my +5 back and the game now works. Fortunately when the ps failed it didn't take any of the boards with it...this time.

Crap I forgot I already had this thread going... anyway.. mine is better than both of the 'toasted pics'. It appears that the TIP141 di go out but the only damage is a connector with some melting. Its repairable.

Also .. after looking at the manual my power supply does not have a modification they list. Should I do the modification?
