So I have been going through my "classic" systems and setting up for RGB output.
I know I could just run master system games on my genesis but I already had this MSII that I got back when it went on clearance. I also want to go cheapo on this one so didnt want to go for an everdrive.
I have always wanted to try SG-1000 games and also be able to run jap games. The problem is that a US system will not run jap games because the bios looks for proper header info of a US cart and runs a checksum. Also everything I read said the Master System II was not setup hardware wise to be able to be backward compatible anyway.
Well anyway I setup a cart to run eproms and set on to run a jap master system/mark III game. There are 2 ways to mod the system to run japanese software. You can replace the bios with a jap bios, or just completely bypass the bios so the cart slot boots first.
But I didnt feel like modding the system, no real reason, just didnt want to and I kinda like the way the alex kidd bios works. I had also stumbled on how the games headers work and figured I could just add the US header info to the jap rom and see what it does.
Before I had tried burning a teddy boy blues rom as it was and it didnt run, so I did the US header info and fixed the checksum and it booted no problem. The system boots with the sega logo then shows the markIII logo and then game.
I thought this was really cool and was super happy how easy that was.
So now time to try an SG-1000 game. I took elevator action rom and added the US header info to it and burned it. It booted right up and ran no problem! I tried several sg-1000 games with no issues. So for my first time playing these sg-1000 games I gotta say they are not the best.
But at least I was able to see for myself that they will in fact boot on a USA version Master System II.
Well more to add to my collection at any rate and if anyone was wondering this same thing, now you know.
