Sega Outrun owners, can you please help diagnose mine ??

Finally got one of my grails today but it has quite a few issues. I wanted to ask you guys what you think my syptoms are that I am experiencing, and to look at my photos and see if anything looks wrong or out of place. The previous owner has done a few things to the steering mechanism that I am positive are not supposed to be that way. He bent a few things for unknown reasons and I think it was to try and disable the shaker motor from the mechanism. The screen is blurry so I assume I need a flyback and cap kit.The throttle does not work nor does the steering so maybe the potentiometers are bad? It has the cracked gear as suspected and I also found that one of the springs has been disconnected,I have it and it is intact in the coin box.The other spring is still attached but seems like it is not part of the steering. Is there a third spring that I am missing? Anyway, please have a look and tell me your thoughts and suggestions. Many thanks!!

Oh man a lot of stuff you need to do but it wil be worth it.
It's really hard for me to tell what is wrong from the pics.
I do know this mechanism as i replaced the gear that was broken once.

You should contact member Steve23 , he's the guy you should talk to for a new gear, he even sent one to me in The Netherlands, steve is awesome!!!!

you obviously tried the focus pot on the monitor..

If you search this forum you can see some posts on bad focus. there are several possibilies. Bad tube, bad tube socket, bad flyback, bad focus wire connection.

Good luck with finding the B gear.. It being held together by wire, is pretty bad.. Hopefully steve is still making them.

Looks like they welded the bracket that holds the rubber stop in place..

As for the bent arm, It does not look too far from normal. That steering system gets pretty abused thanks to the shaker motor.

that small pcb to the right of the big blue cap in the bottom of your cabinet is what has failed when the shaker motor runs all the time.

on the cracked gears, remove the wire the dude put in there. Replace with a automotive hose clap like this :
hose+clamp.jpg
it will hold the gear togther much better.

You might be able to adjust out that focus issue. Try to adjust the focus pot located directly on the flyback. also clean the face of the tube, youd be amazed howe much krap builds up there.

i might have a good b gear but i really would like to hangon to it at this point..

disconnect the pot and see if you can make the car steer that way. If so, center the steering wheel then center the steering via the pot then reinstall the pot.

If it wont steer manually, replace the pot and see what you get. Also make sure pcb connectors and the wiring harness is o.k.

I adjusted the flyback before I even brought the game home and that still didn't help it. I can't check the steering because the throttle does'nt work either. I am going to have the pots tested at work on tuesday. I have also found two parts cabs for sale that hopefully have the entire steering assembly in working order to fix the mess that the previous owner caused. I rather just replace it with good parts then spend time trying to fix it. By the way did the same chassis come in all of the outruns? I need a flyback and cap kit and am having a hard time Id'ng the chassis.

more..........................
The guy you bought it off of must have been a electrion and a crappy welder. I See Wire Nuts and Bird crap. I have a spare panel I use for parts If you need some, Just pay shipping. Looks like a mess to me, Nothing to compare to Till I get to the shop and compare messes on tuesday.

His wife says that he is over in afghanistan right now in the millitary as an electrical engineer or something like that lol

Gears should be changed. You can get metal ones from Steve23. He has A and B last time I checked( few months ago ). If the throttle doesn't work it could be the pot or that the gear is off the track.

Checked the steering, and throttle pots today and they are good, the brake pot is not. So for some other reason the throttle and steering are not working. I have to check my harness connections.

i have 2 outruns and a power drift, outrun1 has broken b gear

outrun2 needs cap kit and boards are not working

power drift??? i havent checked it yet(sa auction)

its looking like im gonna make one out of 2(excluding powerdrift)

if i have parts you can use left over ill let you know
