Hi all, this is my first post but I'm a longtime fan of the community :)

I'm putting some finishing touches on my Outrun purchased a few weeks ago (replaced the cracked marquee & inserted new 15W fluorescent light/starter, replaced the cracked steering wheel B gear, applied new repro steering wheel emblem & start button decal, still looking for a new floor mat), but one major thing I still need to take care of is the corrupted clouds graphics (see picture).

I once had a Strider PCB with corrupted sound issue that was solved by replacing a single ROM chip from a non-working Strider PCB, but in that case the bad chip was visibly damaged so it was easy to identify. I've inspected the top PCB and everything looks good and well seated, and I've checked the schematics but can't find any clues as to which ROM may be the problem.

My next step would be to take apart the 2 PCBs and remove/reseat all the ROMs...but before doing that, does anyone happen to know how to identify which ROM is the problem? Any pointers to a used PCB or spare ROMs would be appreciated too...Thanks in advance!

Have you gone into test mode and run the built in tests yet?

Just thought I'd post the memory RAM/ROM test results for grins...looking at some of the other posts on this forum, it seems like this diagnostic screen often doesn't detect/report this kind of problem...

This problem wouldn't bother me so much if the clouds weren't in the VERY BEGINNING OF THE GAME...figures, heheh :)

Anyway, tonight I'll probably take out the screwdriver and begin (carefully) removing ROMs to see what the effects are. Thanks for the helpful suggestions!

Aren't Sega games fun! Re-seating the chips is a good place to start. I had some success using MAME (fellow klover suggestion) to troubleshoot which Rom controls what graphic. You basically just corrupt the rom images one at a time until you have a similar result on your MAME screen. Bad chip sockets have been common for me on these boards. Having a spare set of boards (bad or good) can also help as you can swap chips and such.
