For anyone who thinks that the shaker motor on the Sega Out Run (and Out Run Turbo) is a bit annoying, an obvious solution is to either change the DIP switch to cockpit mode (for the upright cabs...thanks for the tip Frizzlefried) or disconnecting the wires to the motor altogether, right?

Well, I kinda like the interactive shacking wheel feature that differentiates that feature on Out Run from the other driving games of the time, but I find my motor to be rather VIOLENT AND LOUD while shaking the wheel, which distracts folks playing other games in my little garage arcade, as well as my own game play while playing Out Run. More so than even the Afterburner that I have. My question is, has anyone ever found a way to MUTE the vibration of the motor that shakes the wheel on Out Run, without disconnecting it or disenabling it altogether? Maybe some padding, or maybe a less powerful yet compatible motor?

I attached a dimmer switch to mine but the effect was barely noticable. Even if it shakes more slowly, its still loud and violent.

Turn up the music baby!

heh i like it...

thats a 12vdc motor...

if you could come with some large resistor to cut the speed in half or something mabye it wouldnt be too bad...

Not sure if this will help.

I've found there are 2 different motors in OutRun. One is Black and has a the SEGA logo sticker or stencil on it. The other is a bronze color and has the actual manufacturer spec on it. The black SEGA motor is way less violent and loud (at least the one I have). The bronze colored motor is off the hook violent and loud. It actually shakes the entire machine.

See if you can find the black SEGA tagged motor. It's a nice downgrade if you want a more chilled out OutRun.
