Hello, I have a Sega Naomi Japanese boardset and recently acquired a Marvel vs Capcom 2. I purchased the cart from Japan... but it's a US Cart. So I am getting "Error 01 - This game is not acceptable by this board". Interestingly, it ran Royal Rumble fine which played entirely in English.

Is there a solution for this short of purchasing a US motherboard or is the bios even the issue? I've seen multiple bios chips on eBay, but I'm not certain which to grab. Only one says "multi-region", and it's in Russia. Are there any vendors supporting this wonderful hobby that sell these chips (hobby roms?).

Run a RAM test on CPU Bd to make sure everything is ok. There can be issues that can allow on cart to work and not another. I dont recall MvsC2 being country specific. If I am correct, you could have a bad ROM Bd. As for region, the boot ROM at IC27 dictates what the region is, not the CPU Bd. If problem is region you just need a US ROM EPR-21577 rev anything. I think anything A - H would work on this software. You can use multi region one and they are available in US. If you can burn 27C160 ROMs I can send you any of these files.

I happen to have a Japanese MVC2 at work, and a mixture of US and JP main boards. I was very confused when I was testing them out years ago and got the error code you got, then I realized it was a JP cart on a US board. (or maybe vice versa with another game?)

so I can say MVC2 does have regions.

There is a multi-region bios that can be burnt to your existing bios eeprom (must be erased first). The 2 unused dips on the NAOIMI can then be set for different regions. Just google NAOMI Multi Bios.
