my sega Naomi dimm, non net dimm just a regular dimm. I power on my system. nothing comes up, I have a Naomi board 1. works fine. but when I put the dimm in, nothing on screen. just black?????????????????

Are you using a capcom IO? Very often the DIMMs take more power than the capcom IO can supply, so you need to put a dedicated power supply on the naomi itself.

Hook your meter up to the power supply connectors on the naomi and see what your 5v and 3.3 are at.

If you take the DIMM out... do you get the "NAOMI" splash screen?

yes If I take dim out, I get the splash screen, the setup works fine, I play cvs on it all the time, I just got a dim board for a gdrom drive, could it be because my bios is d and not later?

You didn't answer if you're using a capcom IO (which is not recommended for GDROM as it does not supply enough power) and if you metered your 5v and 3.3v

sega naomi dimm board

yes I'm using a Capcom io. no I haven't done a meter, don't have one. don't no how to use it :)
shouldn't the dim board power up with out the gd rom?

ok, well, there is your problem. Capcom IO can't power a naomi and dimm. Get a JVS power supply and you will be good to go.

Also... get a multimeter.

You will also need at least E rev boot ROM to use the Dimm Assy. If with good power the DIMM Assy still kills CPU Bd, theres bad parts on DIMM bd. Most likely just a buffer or the FLASH. There are other parts that go bad on DIMM Bd but 90% of the time its just those two parts I mentioned.

If you want to run GDROM on N1, you need an E Rev or higher Boot ROM. Otherwise its going to just give you an error 1 on boot cuz it cannot fine DIMM Assy. D Rev and lower are for ROM bd games such as Crazy Taxi, Marvel vs Capcom 2 etc. If you are going to change it, I recommend just doing the G rev.
