Sega NAOMI 2/Wild Riders game freezes

Unsure on using PC supplies for it. I'd think it would work just find as long as you can trigger the soft power on that they require.

The folks on the Sega-Naomi.com forums are the best source of info for this platform.

yeah, I think you just splice the Sega connectors to the appropriate 3.3/5/12V rails and the grounds, and to circumvent the soft on you jumper the middle green and black wires (green being the power, black the ground, I'm assuming)

actually, you get an ATX power supply adapter, and splice into that, that way you can change out power supplies with ease. and that way you don't go tearing the power supply wiring up.

Only resurrecting this thread because mecha the original creator did. His was a year and mine is 12 ha ha, but this is my exact same issue. Did anyone come up with a problem solve on this one. Mecha I did pm you but then I thought it had been so long some one else might have had this issue more recently. Thanks in advance guys. Mine freezes at the exact same spot every time about 15 seconds into the attract mode ish. My setup works 100 percent fine with Naomi 1 games. Don't have any other Naomi 2 games to try. Purchased cart on here as working but had it sit for about a year before I got around to testing it.

Not sure If you need a new cart but I have a tested working Wild Riders cart for Sale or trade..mine doesn't freeze at all.

I'm sure this thread aged well. oh, to be naive again and not exposed to the dark arts of video game collecting.

Wild Riders. I'll get you video of it tonight

Dark arts indeed. Got a new wild riders cart and its still freezing at the exact same spot!!!! This means it's got to be the board right? I checked the voltage and it barely fluctuates when it freezes and funny enough it goes down instead of up.

@irepairsega help the lad. lol

your supercap didn't leak into the cartridge interconnects did it?
I don't know what any of those words mean but I'm going to try and open up the board as soon as I get the chance and see if I can see anything obvious. Isn't it kind of crazy that it freezes at the exact same point on both carts! I just thought that was insane.

No leaks on the board that I can see, nothing obviously wrong that I can tell. Board tested good on ram test.

is it called MEMORY TEST? I don't remember if the rom test is part of the game test or not. haven't mucked with NAOMI in a very long time. but if you run like the game rom test and it shows errors and they're random, that means buffers in the cartridge are bad.

There is a game cart test which I did just in case. Passed good, both carts have the same issue so I doubt it's the cart. And then there the board test which is also ran and that came back good as well. Going to try and get a hold of the I repair sega guy tomorrow

yeah, well then your buffers are probably good. lol

make sure you have +5V at the yellow (+5V)/white (ground) wires set between 4.95-5.00V. don't go above 5.10V, that's what damages the buffers. it's in my power supply guide.

I have read that guide a few times actually, you helped save my blitz. Ya voltages are good. I'm at like 3.32 and 5.04 or something around there.

Wow. Not sure how I missed this post. Voltages at front of Game Bd cage must be 3.30 and 5.10. I have been set on recommending these voltages since we started producing Naomi in 99. Everything forward follows same standard. As for freezing or lock ups, you have bad buffers on the ROM Bd. Unless its corroding but i don't think thats an issue or it would be dead by now. Look at 16 bit buffers. There are nine. Not just 16245. There are also 16373 (which fail more often than 245). If there is an f symbol for Fairchild, you have bad buffers. No question about it. Replace all nine. If you are not extremely familiar with fine pitch SMD rework, don't even try or you will be looking for a replacement pcb, which you will then have to send in to have buffers replaced. Also, do not do anything with the heatsinks / fans over any of the BGAs on CPU Bd aside from blowing compressed air to clean them. If you try to do anything with these heatsinks, you will brick the CPU bd. Sorry but i saw something on that earlier in string. Your best option is to send me this ROM Bd and get the buffers changed. I have repaired thousands of Naomi and Naomi 2. Nothing really gets by me on these.

HEY HEY HEY Im the guy that called you today, Im Paul! Im still absolutely blown away that both carts would be having the exact same issues espeically since it worked on kidkaos earlier in the week, but I am going to bite the bullet and send it to you, i was not expecting to spend this much time and money on a game that will barely rotate in but at this point Im already way too deep ha ha. Side note since your here, are you able to tell me which pinouts on the io board wild riders uses to pull the handle bars up and down so that I can jump them with the shifter on crazy taxi?

Lovely. I was looking at originators post I thought, and did not see CA so I thought it was someone else.

Manuals wiring dia shows pin 19 at pull and pin 21 as push. Thats on the larger black connector.
