So I work for a local vendor as a service tech. only been there about 3 months...I know a good bit about arcades...and am learning about jukes, pooltables, and bartops. Anyways....we've had a sega hang on in the shop since I started, supposedly the monitor was out. This is the sit down full size fiberglass motorcycle version, not the upright handle bar only. Upon further inspection, we found that when it was moved out of the location it was in, they used a forklift to grab it underneath the base, and destroyed a good bit of the boards and wiring. So the boss says "Pitch it!".

A good bit of my day today was spent taking a reciprocating saw to the fiberglass motorcycle body and pitching it in the trash. The whole base we're taking to a metal recycler for some cash. I fealt terrible tearing this game to pieces. My hobby is finding and restoring games....now I find myself tearing them apart and pitching them as a job. Talk about Irony!!

Also, my first day was spent hacking up a Star Wars Trilogy sit down cab...only to find out later that the only thing wrong with it was the monitor went bad...then yesterday we took sledgehammers to two claw machines. Of course we salvage good parts for use in other games...but the Star Wars had the boards and all!! If I'd know I would've taken them!!

Oh man. That is sad that even in a down economy ops will just destroy cabs with small problems instead of listing them on CL for others to buy for cash.

If you plan on destroying more cabs with him, ask him if you can part out stuff you break them apart. Maybe you can make some cash here selling them to the rest of us.

Damn, I wish I had a Star Wars trilogy sitdown!

Yea I ended ganking the whole steering piece from the Hang On...handle bars, speedometer encasing, and wiring harness. From the Star Wars I got the seat...hoping to eventually put some padding on it and making it a game chair. We do keep parts that can be reused in other cabinets and games though.

Bridgeport is about 2 hours from Columbus. It's like 2 minutes from Wheeling, WV.

hey there...i'm in chillicothe (between columbus and portsmouth in case you didn't know)...would love to drag off some of the broken ones you're going to cut up...see if the boss wants to sell them...it'll save him money buy not paying you to destroy them and he can actually make a few bucks selling the non-working ones...

Well if we ever go to destroy any major decent cabinets, I've already told them I'm taking them. They're fine with that. But oh god the horror stories I've heard from my coworker. I originally got in touch with the place looking for a MK2 dedicated cab...and they told me how they took sledge hammers to TONS of them a few years back...a little bit of everything there has been destroyed. But seeing as how they don't have as many cabinets now...they usually repaint the cab and stick a different game in them.

Trust me though...anything that's worth saving from being mauled by my coworker...will be loaded in my little S-10 and stuck in my garage!!
