I know a few of you guys have one of these cabs. It's the Zaxxon style. Anyhoo, does the top half remove from the bottom? I noticed the carriage bolts on the side and i'm curious. The reason i'm asking is the whole bottom needs to be replaced, and I want to build another instead of trashing the cab. So, would someone have the Christmas spirit, and give me the measurements? :D

I dont need all the details about the front 2 doors, mostly just the sides, and how the bottom looks. Please please PLEASE help me out!

Thanks,
Jason

i don't recall the cab being able to seperate. However, now I don't have it in the garage, so I can't verify that.

I don't believe it's meant to be separated but it's not too hard to make it happen from what I recall. I've done it but it was a while ago. I think some parts need to be pried. Not sure you can separate the pieces and keep both intact. For me I was replacing the bottom part so I didn't care if that was destroyed.

Did you have a donor for the bottom or did you build one? I really need the measurements because the bottom 7-8 inches has been replaced and looks like crap.

Yes, you can remove enough screws and bolts to remove the bottom. I rebuilt a bottom section that was extremely water-damaged, although I don't have any measurments. I just measured the sections after removal, then went to Home Depot and had them cut out the various sizes which I then put back together and it looked very good when I was done. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics...

I built the bottom .As I remember I got enough parts off of the bottom of the cab in full pieces to make templates for the needed parts. BTW I pulled the bottom off mine while all parts were still in the cab. I seem to remember looking at how it was put together and thinking if I had gutted the cab I might have been able to take out enough screws for the bottom to simply come off. Didn't test that theory though.

Alot of cabinets have those bolts on the sides, it's just to hold the monitor brackets.

This cab dont. The monitor is attached to a piece of wood on the inside. Theres bolts on mine about halfway down the support the bottom.

Hey MOD, did you have to pry the bottom off? Also, if I were to get the measurements for the bottom, home depot will cut them? That's awesome! I know the corners look sorta rounded at the bottom of the sides, can they do that too?

Thanks
Jason

No, they don't do rounded corners so you will have to do your own.

My bottom was basically falling off already. The screw holding it together have round locking plates. Once you find them, removing the screw allows it to release from the adjoining side.

No need to take anything out of the cab except maybe the coin boxes and the hinge for the bottom door.

I had a friend help me lift it up and set it on some saw horses, then removed the entire bottom, measured all the damaged pieces (some of the internal bracing was okay), went to HD and picked out a big enough piece to have all the pieces cut out, then went back and drilled pilot holes and put it all back together. I countersunk the screws through the outside until flush, then covered with laminate so they weren't seen.

It was very nice and sturdy when finished, but I no longer have it....

Bump.....still looking to get the basic measurements for the bottom of this cab. Anywhere I can find it?

Just got the top removed from the bottom. Mod was right. There is 2 allen key bolts in the front, and in the back there are 2 screws that have locking plates. Once removed, the top of the cab slides forward, and nicely lifts straight up from the bottom.Damn that top was heavy lifting by yourself! Since I cant seem to get any measurements, can someone provide a pic of how the bottom of this cab looks please? :D

FWIW... here's the pics of my cab. Notice the shitty built base on the bottom. Most of it is rotten, and falling apart. The top seems to be in nice shape though. Nothing a little sanding cant take care of :D

Front to back it's 26 1/4". Left to right it 23 3/8". Top to bottom it's 21 1/4" the top looks like it fits over the bottom so I would measure the inside lip where it's not painted and add that the the height. There is also a roughly 45% angle on the front bottom.

Nice...thats what i need to know! how do the corners look? ive seem them before, and it seems like the corners were rounded

I don't have a protractor handy to get the exact angle, but 45% looks about right. The front and the back have the angle cut and it looks pretty straight. The rounded "effect" may be due to the T molding. I have to bounce (bowling night), but I should be able to get some pictures tomorrow if those would be more helpful to you.
