I snagged a Genesis model 2 with a six button pad, a three button pad, an SG-6 Fighter Stick, NBA Jam, Tecmo Super Baseball, and Contra Hard Corps for $10. :D I also went to local used game store and picked up Batman Returns, Robocop vs. Terminator, Ninja Turtles Hyperstone, Mortal Kombat 1, and The Immortal, so for not much cash I have a nice little Genesis collection going. I also ordered a few cables because I've had a 32X unit and no Genesis to plug it into for years... So I'll be hitting up the used store to snag a couple of not very good 32X games soon too :D

Great deal, except any controllers plugged into the player two side act as if right on the d-pad is always depressed, which makes it a little difficult to play two player. I've disassembled the whole thing, and the player-two side acts the same out of the case as it does in the case. All the solder joints look ok, but I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Any tips on where to look first to fix this?

Genesi (Plural) are pretty durable. Most likely it is either the controller or the I/O controller board/chip. My 2nd job (used video game store), my boss uses one as a door stop to hold the door open (even when it rains) and after over 3+ years of being used as a doorstop, it still worked great. Just try to locate another base for about $5 and not worry about trying to fix it. Yard sale season has just begun in my area so just keep lookin'!

It behaves the same for all controllers, so I know it's not that, if you plug them into port one everything is fine. I'm not opposed to getting another one, but I like being able to fix things ;)

It's actually more common than one would think, DO resolder the joints on the connector and I bet it fixes your problem.

Yeah, I figured I'd try that anyway, hopefully I'll have a chance to do that tonight.

Sounds like the right button is maybe shorted to ground somewhere. I would find a pin out for the connector, start there and work your way back.
