I just set my super hang on to free play and (just like my outrun) keeps starting games...Meaning, it says 'free play' on the screen and then, as if someone hit 'start' begins a game...Outrun does the exact same thing...WTF? Is this how sega designed these things or am I missing something? Makes no sense...

Both my hang-on and outrun do the same thing. No shorts in the buttons. I just assumed it was Sega's bad attempt at a freeplay setting.

My Outrun does that as well, but I haven't had a chance to look into what causes it. My Hang-On hasn't been set to free play yet, so I don't know on that one. I will try to change it tonight then report back.

OK, how did you set the Hang On to Free Play? I set the 1st bank of switches to on like I did on Outrun, but this one actually behaves like the manual said it should, 1 coin, 1 credit.

Not sure about hang on but super hang on is all 8 switches to 'on'.

Doesnt matter though, its a completely useless freeplay. I think I'll wire a button into the handlebars or something...

Yeah, that worked on Outrun, but not Hang-On. Oh well, I guess it will just keep eating quarters.

Exactly. jumper coin in to game start button or add a small push button threw the coin door lock button, or add a leaf switch behind a coin reject button. Or just leave a cup of quarters near the game.

Was thinking that.

I really want all the games in my room to have a consistent 'coin up' process so people dont have to constantly ask "how do I get this one to play"...Its a total drag for everyone when some games are free play, some are 'push the coin reject' and others have buttons...Not all my games have working coin mechs so thats out...

Connecting coin up to the start button is ok but on super hang on, you use the start button to also choose music and course so you'd end up adding 2 extra credits during the game which would then throw it into 'free play' for the next two games which sucks....

Hmm, unless I make play '3 credits' I suppose...Thats an option

Just shot you an IM...Are these ready for prime time yet??? If so, I'm in!!

PCB order will go out this week. Should expect them back in about another.
I'll update the group with a post when I have a bunch made up and am ready to ship.

That's what I ended up doing --> putting a small button in one of the old security bar holes. Mixed results due to the following rant.

Now it seems like I spend more time walking around resetting machines due to the idiots at my parties that think a credit button is an invitation to see how many credits you can put on a machine just to play one game then walk away which then defeats the purpose of why I put the button in there in the first place. Do you really intend on playing a thousand games of pacman, hang-on, out run, etc in the few hours you will be at my house when you are pressing the hell out of that credit button for like a half hour straight???

Outrun has to have a button. If you coin it up with multiple credits, it just automatically starts a new game after the old one is finished. Mine used to have a lockbar on the front, so I stuck a black credit button in it. Problem solved.

Exactly. jumper coin in to game start button...

I've been thinking about doing this. I assume I would need to run a wire from the CPU side of the Credit switch to the CPU side of the Start button. That way pressing the Start button connects both Credit and Start to ground at the same time. Do I need to add a diode to the jumper to keep the CPU from freaking out when Start signals start running down the Credit line (or vice versa)?
