Hi there, while firing up this model 2 board with the daytona usa rom board I get this ("backup ram access error.") on screen. the board works with the same i/o board and the virtua cop rom board. any help ? thanks.

I'm gonna have to go with your Daytona game rom board having a bad ram chip.

you'd think with how much I've been working on our Daytona USA lately (and House of the Dead... and Virtua Cop...) that I'd have a pretty good knowledge of the game rom board layout... I suppose it's not uncommon for them to fail, given the mileage.

hopefully someone else can chime in with an answer. maybe try PMing channelmanic, I think he'd be the best to ask.

if I check the ROM board there's nothing special. just that standard SEGA mask roms and some 74xx TTL chips. no ram, that's why I'm wondering. is the backup ram on the cpu board and just used by daytona ?

I don't know all the boards and their functions off-hand. I actually didn't crack open the cage on our Virtua Cop, so I don't know the difference in the interlocking boardsets between the two.

I can tell you for certain that Daytona has an optional link board for the sitdown models, and if I'm not mistaken Virtua Cop had less headers on the filter board in the front, so it probably uses less interlock boards.

they may both be Model 2 games, but I think the daughtercards are different, could explain something.

If it's "backup ram" then look for a battery. The backup ram has to be powered somehow. If there's no battery then look for a timekeeper chip or something similar with a big lump on top and a battery sealed up inside.

If there's no battery and no thick chip with a sealed battery then look for a SIMTEK chip.
