Sega Choplifter - dedicated or kit? Flight stick or joystick?

One of my favorite games as a kid but I played it on my dads apple II+.
I'd like to restore the upright version but I can't seem to find much info about it.
Did it have graphics beyond the marquee? CPO, bezel or side art? And is it suppose to have a flight stick?

KLOV says there are 10 dedicated ones out there? Any pics of these or is anyone selling one?

I heard the dedicated was a huge sitdown. Ironically, I just fixed up my kitted game today... I like it, hell it's a kit but it's a cool game.

The closest thing I've ever seen to a "dedicated" Choplifter is in the Sega cab - perhaps actually leaving the factory this way?

And I remember playing it as a kid with a flight stick, but i usually see them now with joysticks.

If I ever get around to making a cab for it, I'll put a Xenophobe-style flight stick in it so I can use the thumb buttons on top for rotating left and right, the trigger for firing, and the stick for movement...

Here's my Choplifter, in a Midway Astron Belt cabinet. Most of the Choplifters I saw back in the day were AB or MACH 3 conversions, re-using the original game's flight stick.

The dedicated Choplifter is the pic that Modessitt posted. The same cab was used for Wonderboy, and with an illuminated alien head on top added, Alien Syndrome.

I use to play it also on my stepdad's Aplle II+. Matter of fact I have that computer in my office, but the disk has been lost... Good memories playing ity w/ some pizza.

MACH 3 cockpits seem to be very popular choice to convert into Choplifter. EVERY MACH 3 cockpit I've seen in the past decade or two has been turned into one.

I don't think I've ever seen a dedicated cab for Choplifter.

Dedicated cabs did exist, but are different than the picture shown. I have a dedicated cab that was unfortunately converted before I got it. The dedicated and conversion CPOs are different. Original Choplifter cabs are very similar to dedicated Alien Syndrome cabinets.

Hi Scott, hey do you have a pic of your original cabinet, i'm going to be building one. I have an Alien Syndrome, but i want to make sure that's the cabinet i want to copy.

Also, do you have any idea what a dedicated shoplifter CPO looked like? Does anybody?

I started a new thread about the CPO here:
