Does anyone know where I could find the schematics for a Sega 400-5198-01 Astro City Power Supply?

Mine fritzed out today and burned up one of the resistors (at least) in the back of the PSU. It was R9, right between ZD1 and D4. I'm going to clean it up and verify that all the other components nearby are still ok, but the resistor is so charred that there will be no way to confirm what it's value was before frying.

Alternatively, if someone with one of those cabs could look inside their PSU and shoot me a close-up photo that I could verify the value with, that would work as well.

Thanks,
Brian.

Do you know if the New Astro City shares the same PSU as the Astro City? If so, I'll open mine up and shoot some photos your way.

I don't know if it is the same as the one in the New Astro City cab. Here is a picture of the one I have : http://www.andysarcade.net/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=1541 (I'm not at home tonight, so I can't take a picture of mine).

It has the model number on the front of it, 400-5198-01, on the sticker. It's the version in a black case, not the -01Y one in a silver case.

Thanks,
Brian

That guy has a different power supply than mine, so unfortunately no help.

Also, even if you did still have your Astro City you wouldn't be able to help.... I'm the guy you sold your Astro to, so if you still had it the same part would be blown! :p Remember? Three months ago? We even sent PM's here on the forums, so it's not like you wouldn't recognize my username... ;)

I'm just finishing up a mod that uses a standard switcher without damaging any of the existing SEGA wiring. I'll post what I did here in a few hours.

lol i didnt even pay attention to the user name just read the post and replied. did you ever fix the other candy you had.

Yeah, I picked up a new tube from a user up in Chicago.

I've now got two nice looking candy cabs right next to each other (notice the chip-off-the-old-block to my left :), The matching shirts was a coincidence that day, though) :

I still haven't gotten around to redoing the buttons on that cab you sold me, but it is on the schedule to take care of next month.

Ok, this is just a few months late....

Here is how I retrofitted a US made Happ power supply into my Astro City without having to cut out any of the factory wiring and leaving the option open to replacement with an official Sega PS.

First, here's what I blew out :

I considered replacing just the parts, but without a schematic I was unable to determine the values for all the bits that had burned up.

Instead, I pinned out the continuity from the labels on the top of the PS :

to the connections on the bottom of that board inside the PS :

That way I was able to still use the monitor power connections and the degaussing switch, as well as the test and service switches that were on the top of the old PS.

I then mounted the new Happ PS in the little space next to the wall of the cab and the old PS and ran some 8" jumper wires from the connections on the Happ around the back of the old PS case and in through a vent hole and soldered them directly to the matching pins on the control board of the old PS :

Now, instead of a wimpy 7.5A Sega power supply I have 15A on the +5 and 4A on the +12. This setup now runs Model 2 beautifully (as well as later Midway stuff that used HDDs).

Resurrecting this old thread for all of those who have felt the pain trying to get a working power supply for a Astro/New Astro City. Just did this mod (works) and never going to look back.
