Seeking Arcade Monitor Repair Dude: Gulf Coastal Alabama

Hey Gang,

I have 2 monitors that require some repairs. I presume both could benefit from a cap kit, one may need a flyback.

I'm trying to find someone in my area, my zipcode is 36527

Thanks in advance!

Bill

Welcom to klov,

You missed the monitor section by one. If you look at the index it is just below the general repair section.

This post will probably be moved to the monitor section.

While you are waiting for someone to reply read the sticky at the top, it has lots of info about monitors. It will help you when they ask questions like is it a vector, wells, k4000, etc.

removal of the chassis is probably the hardest part. I mean, it's effortless for me, as I've done it like 400 times, but for people new to it it's kinda tricky.

at that juncture, since you have to take it out to send it out for repair anyway, I figure you should at least save a lot of your money, and learn how to fix it yourself. it can come off as being kind of daunting at first, but once you figure it out you'll be asking yourself "why didn't I just think of doing this myself?"

alas though, there's some people on here that fix them. I'd even do it if it was just cap kit/flyback installs, but if there's something seriously wrong I don't feel confident enough to diagnose that myself, as I have no real experience with electronics and schematics and such... I just do shotgun repairs.

there's also always Chad at www.arcadecrt.com, but he's in such huge demand he has a major waiting list last I checked.

Thank you, forum police. I feel safer knowing you are monitoring the streets for heinous infractions like putting something in a repair thread, seeking repair service.

The sheer, staggering helpfulness of your post, as well as the near snarky-tone, touched me deeply. I feel, somehow.. transformed into a more focused person now that my clicking skills have been modified with a -1 vertical modifier.

Your point is taken. The monitor section is entitled, "Technical - Videogames - Monitors" and doesn't include repair in the name. Reasonable people could assume that the repair area would be a good place to ask for those providing repair services while the "Technical - Videogames - Monitors" thread would be more suited to the DIY troubleshooter.

Yep. I haven't repaired or pulled one at all. I get the jist and I have fair soldering skills, so I could probably do it but I figured I'm in that "repair Virgin" stage. If I could find a local dude and pay him $100 and feed him a steak, at least I could look over his shoulder and glean advice, ya know?

I have a 19 I'll probably do myself. If it goes horribly awry the replacement is easy enough.

The 25.. we'll I'd prefer to have someone whose done it a time or two :)

Thanks for the words of encouragement, though!
