This is the reset switch that is on the side of the Keypad under the hood.
Does this look right at all to you? Looks like something is missing from that leaf switch. Or, is that how its supposed to be. If I press any key, that switch never connects to the other side.

At the moment, I am unable to make selections from the keypad. The machine will coin up but thats it.

Between the two small copper tabs in that "hole" is supposed to be a small compression spring sort what like in an ink pen, but smaller. The tabs hold the spring in place.

That spring is what makes the blade switch move.

I just put a ring in there that connected the bottom piece with the top peice. Still no luck on the keypad. I purchased a book Ron Rich put out about the Digital series, and basically it tells me for this symptom to test a few test points, and if thats good, then the problem lies in the black box. Ill look for a replacement spring also, and I think start looking for a black box.

Also, I should mention that when i touch that switch with something metal that bridges the gap while the switch is in the NO position, it turns on the Reset light on the front panel. I press any of the buttons but reset and it stays, once i hit reset, it goes away like it should. That tells me that Keypad is either completely working or partially working.

I still blame the black box.

The spring that goes in there makes the switch flip-flop quickly when you push any buttons. If the switch stays closed too long the reset light will come on.

Fix that switch first before doing anything else. If the reset light still comes on after fixing the switch, then the pushbutton assembly must be taken apart and cleaned. Sometimes the circuit board the pushbutton switches contact gets dirty and needs to be cleaned.

CAUTION: NEVER EVER PLUG/UNPLUG THE PUSHBUTTON ASSEMBLY WHEN THE POWER IS ON. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN DISASSEMBLING THIS ASSEMBLY. SMALL SPRINGS AND PARTS CAN FLY EVERYWHERE AND GET LOST/DAMAGED.

I took apart the keypad before, cleaned it up. It was pretty clean to begin with, but did it anyway. I will probably make a spring for it, instead of waiting it out till I find a replacement. But, in the mean time Ill price a black box, doesnt seem like theyd be too much.
