Hello All, Newbie here. I have a Seeburg 220 that I have had restored, but I do not like the way it sounds. Now I understand that the Speakers are 50+ year old designs and I am in a House not a bar, but it just doesn't sound clear unless i turn it up loud.

I was wondering if anyone has replaced the speakers or what they have done.

I have tried a set of PA speakers, and an equilizer, and Pre-amp... but it still doesn't sound good to me.At all.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Congrats on owning a 220, that is a cool juke...

IMHO, I would not consider changing the speakers (if they are original). They are 50 year old designs, but, I dont think speakers have changed that much. Plus, they were probaly spec'd for that juke.

I'm not an expert, but, dont assume its the speakers. It could be the amp, cartridge, etc.

I just had a couple speakers from a Seeburg R reconed. They guy who did it said he had customers who would love to have them. I dont know if reconing would solve your problem.

Im also new to KLOV, another poster put me on to phonoland.com, juke section. Its also a good forum.

Also, Yahoo groups has a good seeburg jukebox forum.

Was the amplifier rebuilt? If not then DO IT NOW! Else you risk a sudden catastrophic component failure that could take out an expensive irreplaceable power transformer.

Typically, jukebox speakers are matched to the cabinet and amplifier. If the amplifier and crossover network have been rebuilt, then have the speakers shipped off to a professional reconer.

Hi. I have a 220 I fixed up as well. I had the amp professionally rebuilt a few years ago. It was dead when I bought it, so I have nothing to compare its sound to. Here's a video of mine in action. I had the pink mech cover off but have it on now. IMO, mine sounds a little flat, but some records sound better than others on it sometimes. I think it has a warm sound, not hi-fidelity, but that's sort of the appeal of it for me. Do you have the optional wall speakers? I bought mine off of Ebay, but currently don't have them hooked up.
