Section Z. Loved it on NES, Arcade version seems even Cooler

Got a chance to try this one last week thanks to an adapter loan from Oryk Z. I really like the left/right about face feature the game offers. Graphics are great, enemies are cool. Don't ask me why, but being a dude in a flying space suit makes this game > Gradius for me. Too bad after I played 3 games, something went wrong with the PCB. I saw a jail bars appear, then disappear, then flicker and stay, so I hit the machine Fonzi-style, which cleared it up. Then it came back a few seconds later. I turned off the machine and reseated the adapter, turned it back on, and now nothing. Tried about 5 more times, still nothing. Just a plain greenish monitor. Dammit! I thought I finally found a use for my generic Jamma cab. Just my luck. Anyone else that has the game tell me if it is worth fixing? Are the ribbon cables a known failure point on these?

I have no way to test the pcb, so as is , it could work but I'm not saying it will, ill sell all of it 35 bucks, shippe or 15 shipped for the marquee and ill throw the manual in there

Yeah, it is a sweet NES game. The label art is awesome and the music is memorable. The original arcade version is much different though. Another Capcom classic.

Which marquee do you have, and what are the measurements? If you can't get to it right now, I'll wait til you can. If it fits in the cab I've got, I'll take it. I thought you bought that game working a while back? Didn't you have a thread about it?

OK, well measure that marquee when you get the chance, if it fits this cab, I'll take it all.

I will not be home untill this weekend so it will be a little while, I can tell you the game was in a bezerk cab so if you know bezerk marquee measurements that's what the section z will fit, ill take pics friday when I get home

I do have A Berzerk I can measure, but did it fit tight, or was it cut too small making it sloppy? Was it the exact size of the Berzerk marquee space?

Well that should work for me then. Was it in good shape, or all scratched up and flaking? I assume it was plexi, so it should still be OK.

honestly i havnt paid attention to it that much, i looked to be in good shape from what i remember, ill take a pic of it friday and you can decide, i might a pic on photobucket if i can find it, if not ill do it friday

Yep. Sounds good. I am gonna do a little checking on my PCB, if I get it working before then, I'll still take yours since you are going to this trouble for me. Thanks.

this is all i have for now, it is plexi and no bubbling

Nice, are you selling that Berzerk bezel too, or are you restoring the machine?

i guess the bezel is for sale, im afraid to clean the back side becase it has some cracking, the bezerk cab im selling to a guy for 20$ he wants to make a 60 in 1, and i have no need for it, i stripped everything out already

I am sure there would be some interest in it from someone de-converting a jamma-tized Berzerk, I fortunately don't need a bezel for mine. The artwork on those is killer though.

Your problem with the board could be power supply related, have you checked to make sure you are getting good power from the switcher?

No, but thanks for the suggestion, I will. I do remember getting shocked by the screw holding the board to it's PCB foot though, wonder if there is a voltage or ground leak?
